DIY decorations/props

Hi has anyone made or upcycled any larger props for their wedding?

I bought this set of vintage wooden ladders from ebay and was planning on upcycling them but I have no idea how or where to start... any ideas? They are covered in paint, ink etc so I know they will need sanded down but I want to keep their vintage rustic look so dont want to over do it (if that would be possible)

    Im not super arty but I would paint them white with blue ribbons tied on the side and then use it as a seeting chart or a place to put canapes or snacks

    Check out treacletarts diy entry in the Hitched awards. She made hers into her seating plan and it looked gorgeous.

    I am using a ladder for my table plan similar to the below pic. If you have a "set" I am assuming you have more then one so could do the same on 2/3 smaller ladders?

    I am also using a wooden pallet to put my order of the day on at the entrance to my venue and some wooden crates to put flowers in next to my table plan ladder.

    You'll need a few different grades of sandpaper - start with the coarsest one and get rid of the paint etc. Then go over everything with a finer sandpaper to make it a bit smoother. Paint your ladders with your chosen colour of paint, and then when it's dry, use your sandpaper lightly on the edges of the ladders to create a more vintage look. Hope that helps!
