DIY Table plan kits - anyone used one, are they any good?

Maid Marian, 16 February, 2012 at 12:58 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi all,

As the title says, I am interested to see if anyone has used / is using a DIY table plan kit for their big day, where you got it from and if it is any good?

My big day is in just over 4 weeks (eeek!) and like it or not I cannot put off the table plan much longer, so want to get it sorted, without paying £80 plus for somebody else to do it....

I have looked at a few DIY kits online but am worried that they look a bit basic....any thoughts/tips would be greatly appreciated!!

xx

Hi, I'm going to be making mine too but like you think the kits are a bit basic. Do you have a Hobby Craft near you? They sell individual sheets of A2/A1 card in every single colour which is nice and thick so I'm going to use for the backing card. Then I was going to get some nice glitzy paper to print the plans on and spruce it up with ribbons, sparkles, etc. Do you know in your head how you want it to look? A kit will be quite restrictive but if you know how you want it to look then you can buy each indivdual bit and make it exactly how you want x

Excuse my ignorance, but are you talking about where on tables to sit people? I never knew there were kits to buy!

Not being that computer savvy, I got a large piece of paper & drew a rough sketch of the room shape & where the tables are. Then put a name at each point on the table where a chair goes.

The venue gave me a blank chart beforehand listing the seatings on each table- seat number 1, number 2, number 3 etc. From memory, seat 1 and 8 had the view facing the bridal table, whereas seat 4-5 had their backs to the bridal table.

Sorry if this isnt what you are talking about.

Looking at the internet and found what i want, i just need to re-create it:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150758996725?var=450065633666&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270889893179?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Instead of paying £30 ive got some cream and navy card (20 sheets for £3.00) and these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330685372324?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 (£3.70) of which the seller has said she will do 50 in cream and 50 in navy (she even asked for the link of where ive already bought my card so she can match it 😃!). Just need some backing card and glue, so hope to do it for half the cost. I did look at DIY kits but they worked out to be just as costly....

I did my sisters last summer and brought mine from here... http://shop.confetti.co.uk/category/table-planners ( I know confetti is a rude word around these parts, so I am sure you could find them elsewhere too). I actually ended up buying some A4 card too and printing the names in that and strumming it down to size, but I used the colored backing paper and main board provided as well as the templates. It looked really nice. I do however think that now I have seen how easy it was to do that I am going to make mine from scratch. L x
