diy wedding and no dishwasher machine for bar!! What do i do?

Hailey, 29 July, 2021 at 15:12 Posted on Planning 0 5
We are having a DIY wedding and running our own bar. We will need someone to hand wash the glassware throughout the evening to make sure we have enough clean glasses to last the night.
The dry hire venue does not have a dishwashing machine but it has a nice sized kitchen with a double sink.

We are thinking of employing one person to be in charge of clearing and washing glasses but I’m worried it won’t be done quickly enough (100 guests)

Does anyone have any advice as to how we can direct our employed bar staff to clear the glassware from tables and wash it as quickly as possible?
Are there any tools or methods that would make this quicker and easier for them?
Has anyone had this issue before and what worked well for you?
Thank you for your advice,Hailey

I used to work and run a pub. During football matches or events when it was busier than usual, we employed 2 pot washers. They were uni students who just wanted a bit of extra cash.
They literally stood at the sink all night, one was washing and one was drying. They then swapped every so often.
As long as the glasses are cleared in quickly and taken to the kitchen, then you shouldn’t run out of glasses. Can you make sure there is someone who is dedicated to collecting glasses. Also ask your guests (with a cool sign or in the speeches etc) to take their empty glasses back to the bar. Could you also buy extra glasses? Even just plain cheap ones from asda/ Wilkinson’s etc.

We did a cocktail party for a large number of guests at home once and even though we had a dishwasher we just paid a few of our daughters friends to serve the drinks and glass wash. Do you know anyone with teenagers who would like to earn some money ?

Thanks that’s a great idea! I didn’t think of employing teenagers as glass washers but you’re absolutely right that would work well thanks Smiley smile

Thanks that’s a great idea!! I’m sure guests returning glasses to the bar themselves would save a lot of time for our glass washers. Very helpful thank you xx

My in laws did something very similar to this about eight years ago they built a bar at the bottom of their garden and hired a couple of bar staff from their local pub to do the drinks and hired the pot wash lad to pick up glasses and wash up. They were paid a little more than what they would have got during a shift but also joined in and had a great time with the family. It worked out so well. xx
