DIY Wedding Invitations... Glue Issues

emmalynch, 5 March, 2014 at 21:23 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi All

I have decided to make my own wedding invitations which has worked out cheaper. I don't know what glue i should use to stick the information bit to the card itself. I tried Pritt Stick buts its really messy and the 'card on card' doesn't stick very well Does anyone else know a glue i should use?

Don't use glue - try double sided tape. It sticks better, doesn't crumple paper and will hold card to card easily x

This - most definitely. I used it for mine and it worked like a dream - it also stopped me getting sticky fingers!

I'm going to use a spray adhesive if I can find one I reckon; if not double sided for me too!

You need spray adhesive - make sure you get the permanent one not the temporary. If it's card to card you may get away with thin layer of pva which is cheaper but may not be the best. Or the double sided tape would work.

Definitely use double sided tape (hobbycraft have an offer on it at the moment)

One you peel off the backing, go over it in pritt stick so that you can adjust it slightly if it's not quite put on right on first try. I always use this method in my card making and make sure I go as close the edges as possible, as well as one or two strips in the middle. I find glue can get very messy and you can end up with small dirty glue smudges. Thicker glues can also make the card "buckle" a bit.

As suggested double sided tape is the best. I make cards as a hobbie and it is the fastest thing to use and does not come off. Whereas some glues once dry do not hold the paper to certain types of paper e.g. glitter paper. I will be making my own cards too and will be using double sided tape as I know this is a sound way of making sure everything is in place. Hope this helps. x Also you want to stay away from glues that are not acid free as may eat away at the paper you are using or photographs x

We're using the double sided dot things. Bought hobby crafts own. Really cheap for 100s of them.

I use bostik 'All Purpose' glue - it's in a purple tube.

It goes a very long way and doesn't leave any lumps, bumps or marks. If you let it run out the tube itself, rather than squeeze it out then it'll last.

It's never failed on me with all my invites. xx
