DIY-ing the dress

sydneysays, 4 December, 2015 at 14:02 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hello! New person here. 14th May 2016 bride...we have most of the main stuff sorted including venues, catering, band and suits...I have my dress but am doing some reasonably major alterations myself. Here's the dress:

I loved the general look and the material, but hated the sleeves. So, off they came:

And I re-attached the hem of the sleeve to the shoulder then started adding beading:

There's a lot more beading on it now, I'll update with pics when I can get FI out of the house long enough to take some!

Love, love, love this! I've seen the dress before and dismissed it because I didn't see the potential. You've made it look amazing! Well done, you should be so proud of yourself, if only I was that talented.

Wow, that is some guts and it has beautifully paid off. I prefer the little capped sleeves and from what I can see does change the dress but I prefer it.

Very well done for the skills, patience and the guts to chop up your dress!

An attempt at some more pictures, sorry they're not the best...

I'm going to add a little bit more lace on the front and back of the sleeves to 'blend' them more, and there's a few more beaded strands to go on. I'm also awaiting a beaded applique for the waist that I'm going to attach a sash to, to bring it all together Smiley smile
