Hello,

I've been given the job of booking the DJ. Wedding is early February and so hopefully there will be plenty of availability.

What should we expect to pay for a DJ? Standard 7pm - 11.30. We won't need any additional time.

Does anyone have any recommendations from this area?

I would assume that these things are quite localised? i.e. it doesn't pay for DJs to travel long distances and so they stay local.

When hiring a DJ does anyone have any tips to ensure that they are competent.

Other than playing guests requests (which will be shared with the DJ in advance) it should be quite straightforward as so long as they turn up and the equipment works not to much can go wrong?

Given Covid concerns there is always the risk that the DJ catches covid and so can't attend. I'll ask whether they have a plan B for this but I would assume that they do, as even in non covid times, there is always the possibility of illness and injury which would prevent the DJ attending.

Any other further tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

It really depends on location. Our DJ is £800 for 7- midnight but we are in Surrey and this includes photo booth, Mr and Mrs lights and fancy room up lighting. The guy who was recommended by my venue was £1300 for the same thing and was shirty when I went elsewhere! Good luck

    Hi JLJ,

I would do this for £500 for an evening set.

In answer to your question a lot can go wrong if you hire the wrong DJ. If they have old rubbish equipment it can fail on the night... not to mention sound or look horrible.

They may also not be very good at the art of mixing and reading the crowd.

I think distance is something you shouldnt worry about. I have travelled as far as 3 hours for a wedding before. Most DJ's will add to the price for this, but if it is still a good price for a great DJ it wont matter.

With my company we have a spare DJ available just in case the main booked DJ falls ill. Although this has never actually been needed.

Check out Fizz and Groove - London DJ Hire and drop us an email.

Thanks to you for your input.

In the end we decided to go with one the DJs recommended by the venue.

The price quoted seemed reasonable relative to what we were quoted elsewhere and the venue wanted to apply other charges for some of the equipment if we went elsehwhere which would wipe out any cost saving.
