do hold ups actually stay up?

donnaj36, 20 August, 2008 at 15:28 Posted on Planning 0 18

Am looking down at my feet in my wedding shoes and they are a very unnatractive shade of purple (my feet, that is)

I need something on my legs but dont fancy wresting with tights every time I go the loo, and I dont want stockings and suspenders-can anyone recomment hold ups that wont fall down like nora batty?

TIA

I wore hold ups and they stayed up all day, got them from M and S I think. I probably looked like Nora Batty by the end of the night but by that stage i didnt care what i looked like?

Yes, they do stay up. Personally I find them really uncomfortable, the grippy plastic bit irritates me.

Yes they do, I wore them to a wedding I went to recently & they were great! I got them from M & S, will definately wear them again.

    Hey donnaj36

they do stay up but I find that after a whole day at work the plastic bit cuts into my fat thighs a bit.

Get some and try them first Smiley smile

Couldn't face tights or stockings when i got married, so got some dove tanning moisturiser stuff just to give a bit of colour, as it builds up slowly not so likely to get awful streaks,

They do stay up but they can dig in a bit. Some also tend to roll over at the top, so as was said try some first

Think it depends on the make; different ones suit different people. I love them and wear them a lot but some kinds do irritate my legs by the end of the day - others don't though. Best thing would be to get some different pairs and try them out.

Most do stay up but the plastic thingy that digs into your skin isn't always very comfortable x

I've never found stockings that fit over my thighs properly, they alway roll down, even hold ups grip on one side and fold on the other coz my thighs are bloody fat!

I dont think they make stockings for fat thighed girls Smiley sad

I wear hold ups all the time for work (this can mean I'm on my feet for up to about 13 hours) and in 10 years of doing this have never had an issue with them. I always buy M&S ones. Whatever you do make sure you get the ones with a broad band at the top, the narrow bands can really dig in and give you a rather unattractive muffin top on your thighs.

I could've written that myself jelly baby! I always wear the broad topped ones from M+S (they are in single packs) as the cheaper 2 pack ones don't stay up as well and give me a bit dent in my thigh! I also find the broad ones are stronger and a better colour too. They do them with an ivory top now too.

Much prefer hold ups to tights- no sweaty crotch for me!!

If you've got an ankle length skirt you could try knee highs, I wear these for work and find them more comfortable than hold ups because there's a natural thin bit underneath the knee.

I think the trick is not to put on body lotion/cream or baby powder as this can have a negative effect on the rubber. I have got a couple of pairs so I hope they work - lol!

I'd try some fake tann first...if you haven't tried hold-ups before you might feel uncomfortable....could always try them before mind. Think I'll go bare legged and slap on the st tropez!
