Do i need a bridal handbag?

cantwait2bMrsC, 17 February, 2009 at 15:37 Posted on Planning 0 14

OK normally i would jump at the chance to get a new bag but i cant help thinking buying one of the typical wedding type clutch bags is a waste of money. There are some gorgeous beaded/detailed/satin ones but i know for a fact i would never use it again and i kind of think i wouldnt even use it on the day. I mean, the things i'd normally carry around with me won't be needed on my wedding day, so what do yo actually put in it? I've seen a small cream leather clutch in accessorize (cant find it on their website so no pic i'm afraid) that would be ok colour-wise but doesnt look at all "weddingy" but it's a style that i could use again. It wont "go" with my dress etc but i cant imagine that i'd actually be carrying it around anyway. What's everyone else doing? Or previous brides, did you have one and actually use it?

My stepmum bought me one that was made from the material sample of my dress. It was lovely BUT I didn't need it. I think I had a tissue and some lip gloss in there and that was it.

If it hadn't been bought for me, I certainly wouldn't have bothered.

No, you don't need a wedding bag. However I woul suggest you buy your CBM or MOH a bag for her to carry around with all of the bits in it you feel you may need.

My sisters clutch bag had some makeup bits, tissues, mints and straws (for drinking pre service & during photos, so not to smudge the lip gloss)

In addition to this I had baskets in the loo with wet wipes, deodrants, mints, needle & thread, mini hairspray and in the gents the same but with gel.

I don't really think a handbag is needed. I'm giving a lipsalve to my h2b, my dad and my mum to carry for me so I should be able to find one of them at all times (I'm obsessed about my lipsalves). We are staying over night at the venue so I can go to our room if I need to get anything.

I do want to buy a vintage bag from Flo and Percy but for no other reason than I love their stuff but struggling to find a reason to spend the money on it.

I've got a silver beaded clutch from accessorize - am a bit of a make up fiend so it will have some powder/eyeshadow/brushes/gloss in, and maybe some hair pins. cant think what else i'll need.

doesn't especially match my dress as such, but the colour scheme is partly silver. i think all those ivory satin ones/proper bridal ones are just ugly.

You don't need it. Anything you do need, you get your bridesmaid or your mum to carry for you. All I had was my inhaler (which Mum had and which I didn't need) and my lippy, which my sister (MoH) had. And I didn't actually touch up my lippy til we were in our room between wedding breakfast and evening do anyway, so could have left it in the bridal suite.

I doubt I'll bother to be honest, unless one is bought for me, but that's unlikely. I will probably put anything I will need in my mum's or my chief bridesmaid's bags, and then chuck it all in the bridal suite during the evening party as I probably won't be bothered about it then.

I had one... it had stuff in it...lip gloss, tampons (:-( ) and the room key and I carried it around until the eve then left it on the table.

Can't remember what else i had in it to be honest but am carrying it in photos. It was a typical bridal one colour/ material matching my dress and I got it from ebay so it didn't cost much. I liked it and needed it...didn't want to find my MoH every 4 hours...not that i needed to as we stayed at the venue!

I didn't have one, although my mum brought my normal handbag & left it in her car so I had my normal stuff (mobile, lipsalve, purse etc) at the hotel - we weren't staying at the venue

Even if you have a pay bar (which we didn't) people will be buying you drinks so you won't need any money

I probably would never use a bridal handbag again but as someone else is buying it for me (H2B) there is no way i would pass up an opportunity for a new handbag lol

I've just bought a flowergirl's bag from Debenhams - nice and small and only £10!

I bought one from debenhams from the wedding section to carry my make up around since i'm doing my own make up on the day! I'm not going to carry it around all day but i will have it on hand just in case! It's similar to this one

    http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10001_90123_523040_-1

Also, it was half price so i only paid 7.50 for it

I didn't use mine! I also took my curlers (my hair didn't stay curly for long) and other bits and bobs - spare stockings etc but again, never used it. I could never find it, so just went to see my MOH if I needed anything, or my Mum. Whichever was closest! hehehe

I couldn’t find one that I would wear specifically for the day so decided to make my own handbag as I wanted a few bits to keep with me throughout the day. I actually wrote a blog on this topic so read that here: https://sophiesimpsondesigns.weebly.com/handmadeblog/previous/2
