Do I need an order of service for a civil ceremony?

claireac, 23 February, 2009 at 15:08 Posted on Planning 0 8

As the title really - I can't remember the last civil marriage I actually went to, so I'm just not sure!

Thanks x

Hello - we're not having one, although I have a wedding website which kind of details what will happen when on the day.

    Hi MayDay,

Do you mean more of an Order of the Day? I mean for the actual marriage ceremony. If we were having a church ceremony then a definite yes, but I'm not sure for a civil ceremony.

I'm not having one - simply don't think it's necessary, and I'm sure people will leave them behind. They're great for a religious ceremony as you can have the prayers and the hymns, but I just don't think you need them for civil.

(and one less thing to worry about!)

I'm not having them - they just seem like an unneccessary expense to be honest. I can ishly understand having them for a religious ceremony but for ours I'm guessing the ceremony will be over and done with in about half an hour!

The name of any readings/poems will be read out by whoever is reading them and I'm pretty sure the registrar will explain what happens at the start. For me, I'd rather spend the money on something else ?

It's not something I "want" but was mentioned to me the other day by a family member - something else we won't be doing right!! Oh well ?

Lol you sound how I feel! I wouldn't worry too much, if you don't want it then that's fine - it's your day afterall. You wouldn't believe the looks I've had when I've said I'm not having bridesmaids....

We aren't bothering. Don't see the point as they aren't needed and just another waste of paper, time and money. I've been to one civil ceremony where they did have them and they were useless.

Not essential but we're having some with order of the day on as well. Wanted to make sure everyone knew when stuff was happening, plus gives the ushers something to do.

I'm making them myself though, so not really adding much costwise.
