Do i really need Evening food?!?!

Nikita, 9 January, 2025 at 08:24 Posted on Planning 0 7
I’m a South African getting married in Scotland to my Scottish fiancé and I can’t get my head around evening food?!?

We have canapés going out at 2:30pm. Our reception dinner meal and dessert for our day guests is at 5:30pm. Evening guests (20 of them) arrive at 7:30pm and cake cutting is at 8pm for all the guests. Personally, I think feeding evening guests that late doesn’t make sense to me? I’m sure they’ve had tea if they are arriving at 7:30pm.I was thinking just get Wraps and pies from Costco and lay a few out maybe 100(as the wraps are cut in half) but my fiancé is persistent that it’s not enough food or it comes off very cheap not to feed them a meal.
I need some guidance on this because I can’t wrap my head around it at all…

You don't need a full meal for your evening guests, but you should provide something - buffet food would be fine, but unless your reception is finishing very early, even your daytime guests might be getting peckish by the end of the night.

Mostly for timings like that people just have light snacks - bacon butties type thing so what you suggest should be ok..

But you say meal starts at 5.30 with evening guests coming at 7.30. That sounds very tight to me. It depends on how many people you have for the meal and if its a buffet or silver service. if you are having any speeches and if that 5.30 is call in time or you have a call in time at 5 for service to start at 5.30. But 2 hours for food and speeches is a bit short I think.

Yes to evening food! At 8/9pm! Someone is always hungry! I’m always that person! Even most people I know! Not everyone will eat but cater to a %. I can’t remember what the ratio is but we just had food all day from 4pm-9:30pm and we had snacks when people arrived at 2pm and every single piece of food went! They were not small portions. I really see what you are saying but everyone will always go on about if they were hungry at a wedding and personally from my wedding it’s the one thing they won’t stop talking about is they were well fed!
