Do Save The Dates have to match the invitations?

Daisy Bell, 24 February, 2015 at 16:48 Posted on Planning 0 13

I just had the idea of sending out STDs after reading a topic on here - we are already getting married in August and should have our date confirmed by the end of the week.

Originally I wasn't going to send out any, because it will be a very small wedding - we'll have about 15 guests and I worked out that we would only need 8 STDs as most guests are couples.

But now I am thinking a Save the Date could be really cute... And since we would only need 8, it wouldn't be expensive at all.

The only problem is if we're going to send out STDs, we should probably do it now and I've not decided on a colour/colours or a theme for the wedding and invitations.

Our wedding invitations will be handmade by my OH's aunt, but I would probably just order some STDs online (maybe even magnets).

So, do STDs have to match the invites? And would you prefer to have your STD have a picture of you or just a nice design? I am not sure we have any pictures of us that we actually like that are print quality (lots of them are iPhone pics).

Thanks!

No, they don't have to match. You can do what you want!

MAGNETS!! For people like me, a magnet was most useful as I never forgot the date and booked it off work and remembered to rsvp etc. I even remembered to wish them happy anniversary as it was still stuck on my fridge!! :-)

Agree with what's above - but as your wedding isd on August you really need to get a wiggle on as you'lk be due to send your full invitations pretty soon. Smiley winking

Yeah, I thought wedding invites are generally sent 2-3 months before the wedding? We have exactly 6 months to go today.

We haven't booked our venue yet so we didn't want to decide on our date until we are sure we don't end up missing out on our venue because of it (we had an alternative date which would have worked well too). We have decided on our venue now so just need to book and then the date is 100% set. But almost everyone we are inviting already knows about the two dates we were considering... so sending the save the dates is not a necessity for informing anyone.

But basically, once the venue is booked I'd be happy to send out the STDs immediately. Does anyone have experience with Vistaprint for these or another online printer company?

My invites are from Vistaprint. It's been pretty good. Better than expected. My save the dates were from eBay. Got 40 for £15.

Vista print always have big sales on. I found a voucher for 40% off

Ours didn't match and not a single person has commented on it. We did postcards with a photo from our "engagement" shoot on it for STDs. have seen our mugs on every friend's fridge for the past 6months! ;-)

If you want them and you only have a few to get anyway then why not :-) I love the magnet idea I think that's such a good way of doing it. I drew and wrote ours, scanned it in and uploaded onto vistaprint. Considering I got a D in art over 10 years ago I was pretty chuffed haha. Our proper invites will be black but much more subdued and with none of my scribblings. I don't think it really matters if colours arent the same. Our std is supposed to look like how our actual cake will but we will probably change our minds by then. If you like something just go for it, people won't notice if they match or not.

Critter, yours look fab! Very impressed!

I googled save the dates and Vistaprint came up, they do 10 magnets for £5.99 (although I think that doesn't include VAT & shipping) so that's absolutely affordable considering we wouldn't need more than 10.

We are probably going to have an engagement shoot but not until closer to the wedding. Otherwise I'd use those pics of course. We just got engaged a month ago and are both not overly happy with our weight atm so we want to slim down a bit for the wedding plus I want it to be an opportunity for my OH to learn to be a little less camera shy for the wedding so want them to be relatively close together (maybe 2 months apart).

We used vistaprint magnets-they are great!

I used completely different invitations for the day guests.

Personally though I wouldn't bother sending them now though, would go straight to the invite!

These questions do make me giggle. Do you really think someone will receive a save the date, then months later an invitation, and think "can you BELIEVE that Daisybell?? The nerve of her, sending us non matching cards!"

Tip: nobody cares about the little details of your wedding except you. Remember that and you'll stress less.
