Do you hoover your mattress?

Sparkley Christmas Muff, 16 December, 2008 at 12:43 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 22

I am having a massive clean up of my house - I have just washed all the bedding and I am about to turn the mattress - are you meant to hoover it?

I have had it a year and always have a mattress protector, but I am sure I have heard that hoovering your mattress helps kill dust mites......

I have done in the past but it's not something I consciously do.

It's no different to hoovering stairs or the sofa.

    It takes 2 mins.

If your saw what comes off, you would do it more than once a week.

Yes, sorry, not been on here much as I'm not at work ?

I gave in and called him, asked him outright if there was a problem, he said no, but admitted that after he told me how much he cared for me the week before, and that he felt I was the right person to start a family with him, he felt I was pushing him away as the very next weekend i was out 3 nights in a row going to parties and having a great time without him.

He thought that what he told me freaked me out and I was kind of running away. I laughed and said it was totally opposite, and I was upset he hadn't responded to my calls or texts. He admitted that he hates texting as it can come accross the wrong way. Plus also, I was texting him I love you at silly o'clock in the morning when he knew I was drunk!! He said that he doesn't like saying I love you all the time as it doesn't mean anything, he likes to say it when he really has the urge to - erm, writing it down looks silly, but I knew what he meant.

He was away with work until Thursday. He came over and I cooked a lovely meal - thanks Legless for the fab recipe - we had a looooong talk, about our fears and insecurities, didn't hold back. There were tears from me, stunned shock from him ? I realised I could have stopped getting myself worked up and in such a state if I had spoken to him sooner.

He finds it hard to talk about feelings, he is an only child, his parents are old, has never really felt close to them, and then he meets me, an emotional wreck who if I am not re-assured that someone loves me, and isn't going to run off with someone every 5 minutes, thinks they are going to dump me.

So, I think it's me with the problem. He is fine, we are fine, we just need to communicate a LOT more!!!!

Thank you for all your help and advice. It's so hard trusting someone and letting them 'in' when you have been hurt in the past, but I need to stop thinking about the past and get on with the future ?

I do, if I happen to be changing the sheets and the hoover is close by but not too worried. I do have asthma and 3 cats so worried about dust and hair.

I have been known too hoover the mattress - probably about once a year, if that. I can't imagine being organised enough to do it once a week, I don't even manage to hoover the floors once a week never mind the mattress.

No. Ours is filled with water so I don't think it would be a good idea.

Ooooooh I have always wanted a water bed. My friend had one years ago and it was huge. Is yours heated?

Yes it is. It's lovely. One night though, H knocked the socket switch without realising and turned it off, when I woke up I thought he'd wet himself or the bed had sprung a leak as it felt wet. It was neither, it was just because the water was cold.

(I don't actually know why I thought he'd wet himself because it's not something he's ever done! - well since he's been potty trained I guess)

I did this with my old mattress, but haven't done it with our new one.

We use a mattress protector and I know we should do, but changing the bed takes me long enough without hoovering it. Will definitely try my best to start this in the new year.
