Do you know the dingle dangle scarecrow nursery rhyme?

Zo, 30 June, 2008 at 18:49 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 20

I just started singing the dingle dangle scarecrow rhyme after seeing Zoay's sig and my H looked at me like I was stupid! He has never heard of it! Please tell me he's been living under a rock!

To be honest, my H doesn't know ANY nursery rhymes so it's just as well we're child-free - he'd be USELESS!! He said he doesn't know any because his mother didn't sing any to him. Silly woman. ?

I know it! I guess it's kind of a "rite of passage" as my mum used to run a playgroup and I used to help her sometimes!

"When all the cows were sleeping and the sun had gone to bed..."

I can also be relied on to know the words to Tommy Thumb, and Wind the Bobbin Up!

    ah the 2nd verse goes

When all the hens were 'wooooosting' and the moon behind a cloud

Up jumped the scarecrow and SHOUTED VERY LOUD (with appropriate shouting)

    I'm a ... etc

I can't get that song out of my head now!

It's Ben's favourite atm, he can even do the dance- but he jumps up too early because he's very, very excited.

It's MissSun's favourite but I knew it from my childhood. She does it at Boogie Babies and they all lie down pretending their asleep [fluff icon]

I'd never heard of it until I started to go to baby group with my own little one.

Also, 'Wind the Bobbin Up' is a new one to me - is this just a Northern one?

I hadn't heard of Wind the Bobbin up or Dingle Dangle Scarecrow (until i took my daughter to a library sing song) and I am a fully fledged Northerner.

My class love this song, especially doing the SHOUTED VERY LOUD bit. There is also a 3rd verse which is 'whispered very soft' but they don't like that one as much!

We do 'Wind the Bobbin Up' as well. Horrible song after you've sung it thousands of times. We're in Hampshire so its not just a Northern one.

One of the favorites here is 'Zoom Zoom Zoom' and 'Sleeping Bunnies' both of which are done with Scarecrow song and involve intense and vigorous jumping and repetition

A (and I) loves both those songs. She's just started to try doing different bits of the actions to wind the bobbin up. Dingle dangle will take a bit longer but she recognises the music to it. Oh and I'm fairly far south!
