Do you put tomatoes in your shepherds pie?

Just looking at online recipes some chefs just put in tomato puree which i've already done, others use tinned toms. Do you put tinned toms in yours? I feel my mince mixture needs a bit more 'tang'!

    I hate proper shepherds pie, so I only ever make cottage pie (though I call it shepherds pie as I'm lazy) and yes, it has chopped tomatoes.

    Mushroom soup? That's just wrong?

    Usually it's just meat, whatever veg I happen to have in the cupboard/freezer, gravy (usually gravy salt and cornflour) and mash on top. Oh and a cheese topping as I love crunchy cheese! Adding anything else just doesn't seem right.
