Does anyone have this Sony LCD - KDL-40V4000?

Help!

I ordered this TV online after reading rave reviews about it, and it arrives tomorrow.

My friend has just told me that she bought this TV not so long ago and she's really not happy with the pictire quality.

I've had so much going on that I thought if I ordered a Sony with good online reviews I'd be fine, as I really don't need any added hassle right now.

Does anyone else have this TV? And is the picture quality really as bad as my friend has made out?

I appreciate that the picture quality of a large HD-ready LCD TVs is never going to be amazing if just transmitting a standard definition programme or programmes through Freeview. I'm hoping that my friend's expectations are just too high and that this is a good purchase after all.

If the concensus is that it is a poor choice then I have the option of returning it to Amazon as long as it is unopened.

Cheers

I have this - bought it in February and I think it's absolutely superb. With a high def feed from my freesat box and my blu ray player, the results are stunning.

Make sure you calibrate it properly though - worth investing in a blu ray and DVD copy of Digital Video Essentials (available from Amazon) to get a good quality colour and sharpness balance.

Can I jump in and ask you a question Baron? It's sort of related. Well, I'll ask anyway as you're here and you can choose whether to respond or not.

I've got a Sony Bravia tv bought about 9 months ago. The volume on all 3 remote controls seems to be playing up (the TV remote, the V+ remote and the DVD/Video remote) - yet it is fine using the manual buttons on the TV set itself. Using the remote controls just doesn't do anything. if I press really hard then the display comes up on screen but it doesn't actually adjust the sound level.

Would this imply a problem with the TV? (I've not checked all the batteries on the remote controls yet as I thought it was highly unlikely that they have all gone at the same time. I will do this at some point just to rule out the possibility though.)

    Thanks o knowledgable one.

Sounds like it's a problem with the IR sensor if all remotes are being affected - do you get any problems with any other controls? At least you're still well within warranty.

Yep, I like freesat. Only slight downside is that you can't get channel 5 at the moment although rumour has it that this will appear next week to coincide with their brand relaunch. A word of warning though that the free channels on sky aren't necessarily available on Freesat.

    Thanks.

I don't think I have problems with other controls. The only other thing I used the remote control for is to change the AV channel every now and then and that is fine from memory. I'll have a play with it later on and work out what is affected and what isn't. The DVD/VIdeo and V+ box work fine with their remotes.

I'm glad it's still under warranty. I must find it to check the expiry date. Hopefully Comet will be easy to deal with if it is faulty.

(not sure why the font has changed)
