Does anyone use Ocado?

Ms T, 27 May, 2008 at 12:38 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

Have finally given up on using Sainsburys for deliveries as I have had no end of trouble for the last 6 months and have just found out that Ocado deliver in our area. Does anyone else use them and do they compare favourably to Sainsburys/Tescos etc?

More expensive, but better quality. You get what you pay for. The delivery slots are hourly as opposed to two hourly.

I only used them once and I wasn't impressed. Most of the fresh stuff was only a day or so away from it's use by date, and the bread was the same day.

They are great, but about 20% more expensive than Tesco (for our shopping anyway).

The stuff comes in colour coded bags (freezer, cupboard etc) which is very exciting, their website is limited but generally ok and shows at that point what's out of stock as it comes from a wareouse not a shop, and the staff generally ask if you'd like it bringing through to your kitchen.

    I am easily pleased.?

If the price puts you off, can you rethink when you get stuff delivered? I've found morning more reliable than later on. We use Asda most of the time and a mid morning delivery is often ok stuff and timewise.

Thanks everyone - sounds quite positive. I've just seen that they do organic veg boxes (another bane of my life at the moment) so that and the fact that they do my favourite snacks has pretty much swung it for me.

Sorry, s hould have said, I use them almost exclusively for cleaning products and canned stuff, aa lot of which they price-match with Tesco on.

I do but am finding that I am ordering less and less from them. The service is great, in 90% of cases, they always deliver earlier than the slot I have booked by anything up to 20 minutes (which is also a disadvantage if you are running late though). I am finding that some of the dates are not great. My delivery was early Saturday morning and today the bread is mouldy. Which seems a bit quick and it isn't the first time we have had that. Fruit tends to come bruised and again seems to have a fairly short life.

So depending on what you are ordering they are either great or not. But I think that tends to be the same with most of the delivery services?

I fell out with Ocado. They made a mistake on my shopping (as they all do from time to time) but they just would not put it right despite emails going back and forth between us, which was infuriating. All they needed to do was refund me for something they had sent and charged for in error.

I stick to Tesco now, they are a lot cheaper and if they make a mistake they sort it out no questions asked. I've found going for the 9-11pm slot they always deliver before 10pm, I guess they want to get finished asap, so I get a one hour slot really...

Whatever you do, however nicely they ask and how desperate they look, DO NOT let their delivery driver use your loo.

Shudder. My contact lenses nearly fused to the front of my eyes.

I use Ocado all the time and have never had an issue with sell-by dates. Maybe it depends where you are?

They text you before the delivery to give you the drivers name (not really necessary) but also to advise any substitutions. I love that as it means that you're not scrabbling aound with the substitutions at the front door.
