Does the Bride need a handbag???

Gillsy, 1 May, 2009 at 12:58 Posted on Planning 1 14

I seen a lovely ivory handbag with a chiffon flower in BHS at lunchtime which was only £8 (bargain!!!!). I was going to buy it but got to thinking......

Do I actually need a handbag???? Obviously I'd like to have my lip gloss, mints, tissues etc with me but who would carry it for me???? I don't see myself walking down the isle with a handbag!!!! When would I carry it??? Would I just leave it lying somewhere and if that is the case then is there any point???

Can anybody advise???

Ta Gx

I don't need one but it is a very good excuse to buy a bag!!! I guess it depends on what access you will have to having your lipgloss etc stored somewhere else in the venue (hotel room etc). I guess if you had one then the BMs could carry it or your mum until you needed it.

I've just realised I really don't need to buy one ☹️

I'm having one, and will be giving it my mum to hold during the ceremony etc. I guess my BM could keep hold of my lippie and things, but i dont want to have to keep going to her for a touch up, or whatever else i may need. And at a bargainous £8, if you later decide you dont want to use it, you haven't wasted too much cash

Nope - I didn't have one. I really didn't need it. I gave my mum my lippie and never used it in fact I didn't use most of the things I bought for the day - I bought flip flops for the evening and didn't need them. Bought powdered blotting paper - didn't use that either!

No, that's what bridemaids are for!

I will have a bag full of stuff that I may need, such as needle and thread, plasters, toothpick, make-up, baby wipes, hair stuff, deodorant... but that will be kept upstair in my room. Whenever I go to a weddiing, or any other party for that matter, I rarely carry my bag, it's normally left on the table.

For the sake of £8 I'd buy it anyway, it may be useful to have even if you're not carrying it earlier in the day just in the evening.

I've got one but only cos i saw it and loved it! i'll fill it with make up and hair pins etc and find someone to hold it. i'll probably get my sister to look after it.

amethyst, mine is a lovely silver beaded clutch! from accessorize. looks similar to this:

but the bugle beads are all in lines with no pattern.

    just get one anyway!

I didn't have one and I can honestly say there wouldn't have been a point! My mum kept my Rescue Remedy and my lip gloss in her bag and I wouldn't have used it, only I made a point of it once during the day as it was MAC and expensive! I had a box hidden under the cake table with my 2 other pairs of shoes in it (yes, I had 3 pairs on the day and am proud of this!), a support bandage and ibuprofen for my bad foot, and blotting paper - the shoes were the only thing I needed. H and I asked for our drinks only to be put on a tab for the final bill, and paid for our cab in advance so didn't need money.

Having said that though, I'm not a bag kind of person, and if you like it and it's a bargain, why not? You can always sell it after! I also remember at my friend's wedding, later in the evening she had her bag with her and it was a really old, casual and quite grubby one that she'd had for years and years ... it didn't go at all with her beautiful dress! So if you might need one, get a nice one!

Oh, for all those who say "that's what your BMs are for" ... well, maybe - but do you want your BMs carrying their handbags down the aisle? IF they don't have an OH or family who can hold their bags for them, arrange for someone to look after them until after the service ...

I was going to get one and then I decided not to. I have little drawstring bags for my bm's (all children) and I'm going to put my lipgloss in my daughters bag. She's 3 so there won't be much going in hers!!

I've also ordered a cotton bag from Vista Print - as suggested by Tahdah - and will put some bits in there too which my mum can bring. I think my daughter should have a spare change of clothes just in case!!

No bridesmaids for me, so I do have a bag which I'll give to my Mum to look after. I just need something to carry my car keys/housekeys/lipstick/camera/phone/purse etc etc etc.

Why don't wedding dresses come with pockets?

Don't understand the sentence. The syntax is all wrong. In no language that I recognise does that sentence work. What has "need" got to do with the word "handbag"?

(Walks away shaking her head and looking confused).
