Does the wedding planner sample the food at a food tasting?

John, 8 March, 2022 at 16:04 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 3

Hi all,

For those who are procuring a full-service wedding planner for their big day -

I understand the wedding planner normally would attend a meeting with the caterer; however, do they sample the wedding tasting menu alongside the bride & groom? Especially where the cost of the food sampling is substantial (compared to a standard meal); and the caterer is a known (and recommended) supplier to the planner.

If so, what is the purpose of the planner sampling the menu, what service are they expected to provide? x

I can't say as I personally don't get the point of a planner, the wedding should be something you do together and o don't like the idea of someone I don't know having input, would rather have friends and family options, but each to their own. For food, agreed that I don't think they should be part of it, so just tell them that. Wishing you luck

I agree with Charlotte, never seen the point of a planner when I can do it all myself with his input in the right places!

I wouldn't expect the planner would need to be present at a meal tasting though as they are not going to sit and eat the wedding meal with you are they? I would defo tell them their services are not required for that part.

If the caterer is a known supplier and recommended by or to the planner, then in theory they should have tasted the sample menu long before now, and there's no need for them to taste it again - otherwise, what's the point in them being a "recommended" supplier?

If a planner is trying to charge you for this, I'd firmly ask them why and to justify a reason for it, as really only you and your other half should be making that decision.
