Doing own hair

Louise, 7 September, 2021 at 07:50 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 7
Hello, so I have decided to save some money by having me and my bridesmaids do our own hair, however I'm not the sort of person that does anything other than straighten my hair 🙈 I want half up half down with beachy waves like the photos but I have quite fine, heavy hair and am worried it will fall out after a couple of hours. Does anyone have any tips, I've heard people say things like "don't use conditioner" or "let it dry naturally beforehand" do any of these things work? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I am getting a beauty works curling iron for my birthday so will have about 4 months to practice! Thanks very much.

My hairdresser always says don't wash your hair for a day or two before, as styles hold better on dirty hair, sounds odd but it works. I am no good at hair as don't do anything with it but chuck up in a pony so I have got someone in to do it. Maybe see if local college students are looking for people to practice on, you never know they may be willing to come do your hair and make up for a small fee to help build their portfolio. It is worth splashing out on you and maybe asking your BM's to do their own, this is quite common now, or if they want professional then they can pay, once you know the take up speak to a hair and make up person and get prices.

Thank you, I will try it on dirty hair and see how it goes. I have another month until my curling iron arrives so will have to busy myself with something else!

Definitely don't wash your hair on the day, it really does hold better! Also a bit of dry shampoo can work really well to hold the curls Smiley smile We didn't have anyone to do our hair/make up either, it saved a lot of money and was a lot more relaxed and fun (in my opinion!)

Thank you. I'm so glad I posted as in my head my first action of the day would have been wash my hair!

I'm going to my normal hair salon. They are doing it for £20 which is slightly less than what I pay for a wash cut and blow dry. Worth thinking about

I’m having my usual hairdresser doing mine. Which is a reasonable price, decided to do my own make up instead. I got all new stuff and used my boots points to pay for it. Worked out loads cheaper and I have a whole new set of make up for it.

Hey, I curl my hair with the straighteners and this holds my hair so much better than any curling tong. Youtube will have loads of videos for you to try! I would say just wash it the night before ready for the morning.
