Dom Perignon..... worth it??

Welshgal, 1 July, 2008 at 13:27 Posted on Planning 0 19

I'm toying with the idea of buying a bottle of Dom Perignon for when I'm getting ready on Saturday but it's super expensive- over £100 a bottle and I'm wondering for those who have tried it whether it's worth it? I'm thining it's the only time I will be buying such an expensive bottle of plonk! ?

I'm actually not that keen on Dom tbh, it's alright but I don't think it's worth the extra expense. I personally prefer a cold bottle of Taittinger (around £32) but if I'm really honest I prefer a glass of ice cold coca cola to all of the above! I'm a cheap date ?

I'd stick with what you like, or like KT go for Tattinger

VC is my sisters favourite too. I think because I've got quite a sweet tooth I prefer the cheaper sweeter champagnes as opposed to the more 'refined' tastes as they get more expensive. We had a bottle of brut de brut M&C once and after one sip of it all I wanted was a glass of water ?

Much better to get something you know you like and enjoy than be disappointed on the day.

Very wise words Kebab Thief- you have changed my mind! Getting my VC! If I didn't like it on the day I would be disappointed- more so because I could have got 3 bottles of VC for the price of 1 DP!

If you want to get something special why not go for a vintage VC. I tried one once (can't remember the year) but it knocked the socks of the normal one, it was soooo good. Not sure on prices though. Or maybe try a pink VC (I think that exists)!?

Would that be drier than the normal?

I don't remember it as being drier. Just a fuller flavour (but I am no expert!). I think pink champagnes tend to be sweeter but i could be wrong...I am gonna go do a google.....

I am back, mr Google couldn't find me an answer but after asking around what i said seems to be correct. In any case, if your worried about the sweetness each bottle is marked so extra brut is very dry, brut (the 'normal' bottle) is dry, sec is also dry but less so, demi-sec is mediumish and can be quite sweet. (Sorry if you already know this!) I want to drink champagne now!!!!!

Hello..Ive tried DP..had a bottle for my bday one year. It is very nice. Very expensive but nice. Im a Veuve girl, love the stuff (drink way too much of it at times). DP is really nice for a special occasion and personally liked it very much, even though I don't like any other champagnes, def not Moet!) Id say it is very dear but if you want something special go with it. Or do what I did and buy a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Vintage or Vintage Rose (which we had for our wedding and it was great). You could say im a big Veuve fan! lol x

Whilst Dom Perignon is nice it's not by far my favourite.

I would go with a bottle of Veuve Cliquot Vintage as Mrs W2B said for the morning of the wedding.

If you have a bigger budget buy Krug over Dom Perignon. But IMO this should be saved for you and H2B to enjoy together!

I'd second what Hepburn said...if you want to splash out go for Krug instead of DP.

Alternatively stick to good old VC - it's my fave too?
