Double-barrelled surname

Vanessa, 12 of October of 2023 at 15:26 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Hi everyone,

I'm getting married and I'm thinking of having a double-barrelled surname to keep my current surname and also have the surname of my husband to be. My surname is Richter and his surname is Bryson. Any advice on which order sounds better? Richter-Bryson or Bryson-Richter?

Richter-Bryson seems to 'flow' better to me.

    Hi,

If that is what you want to me it would make more sense for your surname to be first and add his surname to it, rather than the other way around, so it would be Richter-Bryson.

I think most people do maiden name and then their married name, because you're essentially tacking your husband's name on to the end but it's whatever you're comfortable with.

I've been toying with the idea of double barreling my surname after we're married but as my official title is 'Lady' my FH thinks it might sound obnoxious and he doesn't want a double barrelled surname for himself.

I think I will see how I feel closer to the time Smiley smile

Richter-Bryson sounds good but it's whatever feels right for you. Maybe try making your new signature, that helped me.
