Dress deposit?

KJHLee, 30 June, 2015 at 21:18 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hey, I'm about to start looking around and shopping for a dress. I have a very good idea of what I want, and provided it looks good on me, have my heart set on a dress that costs £1295. How much would a deposit be roughly for a dress of that cost? Also are bridesmaid dresses genuinely bought outright or can they be paid off in a plan too?

I went dress shopping for the first time today, and they stated a 50% deposit. I believe that was across the board for all dresses.

50% deposit is standard, I believe. I have just had a look at your signature and see you are getting married this October. There may be an issue with lead times if you are ordering brand new, and a (cheaper and quicker) option would be to alter the sample dress if possible.

I paid a 50% deposit on my wedding dress and a £50 deposit on each bridesmaid dress.

Whoops, it was this October but we pushed it back a year, I forgot to change it in my signature. Okay thanks guys, so I'm looking at a £650 deposit most likely, more than I was hoping but not undo-able.

When discussing wedding dress deposits, it’s always best to confirm store policies in writing to avoid misunderstandings later. For those who enjoy exploring helpful mobile tools, APKREXO offers a wide collection of trusted apps that make planning and organizing events much easier.

I totally get where you’re coming from about the dress deposit — it’s one of those things that feels small at first but really matters later on. Paying a deposit can be frustrating when you’re not 100% sure about the dress, but it also helps the designer or boutique secure your spot and materials, especially for custom or limited designs. I went through something similar when I was redecorating my space recently. I had to put down a deposit for an executive sofa I wanted customized, and at first, I wasn’t thrilled about it either. But once I saw how much effort and detail went into making it exactly how I wanted, it totally made sense. Sometimes deposits are just part of ensuring quality and commitment on both sides — it’s about trust and respect for the work being done.

Congrats on starting your dress search — that’s such an exciting step! 😊 For a dress around £1,295, most bridal shops usually ask for a deposit of 40–50% when you place the order, with the remaining balance due when the dress arrives or closer to your wedding date. Bridesmaid dresses are often paid in full upfront, but some boutiques (especially those using the latest version of their payment systems) do offer flexible plans, so it’s always worth asking in advance.
