Dress shopping!

Ajx, 20 of October of 2022 at 12:23 Posted on Planning 0 4

I'm going dress shopping for the first time on Saturday, does anyone have any tips or advice (things to take, things to ask etc) that might be helpful? I'm really nervous!

Wear nude underwear so that it doesn't show through the dresses. It's hard to tell how a dress will look on you if you can see your briefs showing through the fabric! And wear something that's easy to take on and off. If you can, wear or bring shoes that are the heel height you are planning on wearing, as dresses will look different depending on how you are standing.

Don't get too hung up on the type of dress you want - you may find that it doesn't suit you when it's on, and that something you would never normally consider wearing looks great on you. Decide your budget beforehand though, and tell the sales staff how rigidly you want to stick to it. You don't want to fall in love with a dress that's out of your budget. (And remember to factor in alterations, accessories etc)

If the shop staff are happy for you to take pictures, get a couple of photos of you in each dress you try on - it can really help when you're trying to work out why you liked/didn't like about each one. And plan the day around lunch and coffee breaks - it's surprisingly hot and tiring trying on lots of big dresses!

    Congratulations and enjoy!!

Don't wear heavy makeup (or non at all) if you can! it comes off on the dresses and ruins them. Take of jewellery that snags or could rip fabric. Wear a well fitted bra in nude colours and remember the assistants have seen everything before! If you alrwadyvhave your wedding shoes, bring them so you can a sense of how they look with the dress. Most of all enjoy it, don't worry about sizes and try on dresses that you think you'd hate because it's really good for that gut check reaction! When you know you definitely don't like a dress, it helps later when you love it!
