Dress shopping- When’s too early?

Samantha, 16 March, 2025 at 16:18 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 7
Hey!!

So I’m getting married in 2028 and have asked my bridesmaids already! I have no intentions of buying anything just yet but wanted to get some inspo for me and them by going to try a few things on. I’ve dreamt of this day for so long that now I don’t even know what dress I want!!
I was hoping to have a look next week or the week after! Is this too early???
Any advice would be appreciated! X

I would say definitely too early. There's no point looking now to buy later, since styles will have changed so much by the time another year or two have passed. And if you buy now, you are going to have to end up storing the dress/es for months if not years, meaning they could end up being damaged or faded. I know it's hard, but I'd put the brakes on the dress shopping for now! I'd concentrate on booking other stuff and leaving the dress shopping for a year or so.

Perhaps wait until about 18 months before, but there's no harm in looking online and in magazines to get ideas. I know how you feel though, as soon as I was engaged I started booking appointments to try on dresses haha! I bought my dress about 18 months before our wedding and they say to go at least a year before. I would say what I wanted changed a lot once we booked the venue so I'm glad that I ended up going to the appointment after that.

Honestly, it’s never too early, especially if you’re shopping for something specific like a wedding, formal event, or seasonal styles that tend to sell out fast. I’ve started dress shopping months in advance before, and it took the pressure off later.

If you're browsing online, it helps to keep an eye out for sales or a good Zappos discount code so you're not paying full price, especially if you're not in a rush.

That said, if you’re still figuring out the vibe or theme of your event, waiting a bit can give you more clarity (and options). But if you find something you love early on, I say go for it.

    Hi Samantha...CONGRATULATIONS!!!

It is never too early but its early to buy. I would go to WED2B to understand how it feels to be in a wedding dress and the different shapes. Know what size you would be in the dresses because bridal is not normal sizes, its only crazy so please don't take it to heart with the sizes, prices and the payment process and alteration prices. WEB2B is a free walk in boutique but other well known wedding brands there will charge you to view their dresses. Also it will be handy to ask them to take your measurements and please go in with an open mind and not box yourself in with certain styles. I hope that helps

Not too early at all! Trying on dresses now for inspiration is such a smart move, especially with your bridesmaids—it’s fun and low-pressure since you don’t have to buy yet. My friend did this for her wedding too, and she found so much inspiration at https://www.azazie.com/collections/wedding-dresses. Tons of styles to try, perfect for figuring out what you love, go for it!
