Dress sizing

Louise, 21 May, 2021 at 20:28 Posted on Planning 0 7
Hello, I was wondering if those of you who have been dress shopping yet have found that they are true to size or not? I believe I am mostly a 12 but of course it generally depends on the shop. Sometimes i can get into a 10 (though mostly just in tops) and sometimes i need a 14. There are some lovely pre owned dresses which are obviously only one size available so I'm really not sure what to do. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Wedding dresses generally come up small. Don’t concentrate on your night street size- instead, focus on your measurements (inches, cm etc). That will tell you your bridal size

I found most were a size smaller, I’m a size 10 and had to buy my dress in a 12. The sales girl said the 12 was a 10 in measurements.

    Hi

Definitely use your bust waist hip measurements when buying your dress. I looked at lots of styles. My high street size is 18-20. But when looking at wedding dresses and the measurements of each dress which do differ with every dress I was anything from a 20 to 26!!!! Not happy but it definitely makes a difference when trying dresses. Happy dress shopping. I did all mine online!!!! Gotta love eBay!!!!

They come up small - I just bought mine. I’m consistently a size 10 on the high street but need a size 14 dress to fit my hip measurements!
If you’re shopping in store, they don’t seem to talk in size terms really, but they do measure you at the end so they can fill in a size on the order form

Thanks I think I'm going to put size out of my mind and simply try stuff on!

As said above - wedding dresses come up small. If you're wanting to buy second hand the best thing I would advise is for you to measure your bust, ribs, hips and height and then enquire from the seller about your measurements compared to theirs and whether there is give/take in the dress. Obviously mostly all wedding dresses are altered to fit the buyer exact and as you know all women are different shapes and sizes so just something to think about. Good luck Smiley smile
