Dress sizing

Paigen, 8 January, 2023 at 04:43 Posted on Planning 0 3
Hi everyone!
I’m loosing some weight before my wedding in November and need some advice on the dress!
Should I wait to get measured and pick a dress? As I don’t want to leave it to late. But I also don’t want to have to take it in more than needed!

I already have my dress but am loosing weight for my October wedding. I have booked in a seamstress for September and told her about losing weight. Most often they can go down 2 dress sizes from the dress itself, however, if I am too small for the dress I already have the backup option is to get another dress from a shop off the rack such as wed2be or other independent bridal shops. Then my seamstress will alter this new dress. My current dress was an off the rack one.

I would suggest to call around at a few shops and see what you can get off the rack and ask what is the latest they recommend leaving it and also booking in a seamstress now and letting them know your plans. The bridal shops and seamstresses will definitely be able to offer some great advice x

Get a dress now/soon. Most bridal boutiques recommend 9-12months in advance for buying your dress. Most dresses are designed to be able to be altered 2-3 sizes down, and any more than that is probably an unhealthy/unrealistic weight loss target to set yourself. If you're worried about the level of alteration you might need, mention it to the consultant at the boutiques when you're trying dresses on, as they are so super knowledgeable and should be able to give you a more specific sense of how much the dresses you're trying on can be altered without losing the integrity.

As a man who was a bit overweight I lost loads of weight for my wedding and what I did was wait until I knew I'd be at most 2 sizes higher then my wedding day size and got a dress then and had it altered to fit me for my wedding
