Dress wobble- satin dress with lace bolero?

irrelephant, 3 February, 2012 at 13:15 Posted on Planning 0 17

Ok so after popping into the dress shop last week to get measured and seeing that they had a dress in that i fell in love with, i've been having wobbles.

Originally I wanted lace, vintage elegance. I've ended up with a dress I didn't really like at first but put it on and loved it but now the more i think about it the more i want to try other dresses on. Which is silly because i did try quite a few on and none of them came close to feeling like the one i have. my dress is strapless, but i don't want it to be strapless. I would like a lace bolero to go with it but because there is no lace AT ALL on it, then i'm thinking its going to look just plain stupid. Or do I add straps? I just don't like having so much flesh exposed, especially in church!

Would anyone like to flash me their NON-lacy wedding dresses with lace shrugs or bolero's? I don't like satin bolero's or wraps.

This is my dress

I don't have a flash atm, I will soon. But I have a satin dress with a similarish top part to yours, and I am having chantilly lace cap sleeves added. I have seen them pinned on and they look gorgeous, so it most definitely is ok to mix satin and lace.

I tried on a satin sweetheart dress with removeable lace straps and a high neck lace top that went over it for the church. I'm in love with that 3 in 1 style but still deciding on exaclty what style to go for so will be interested to see any flashes here.

There are so many options for what style and colour of lace you go for that you will definitely find something.

Your dress is beautiful, I am having a Satin Tea Lenght Dress, with a sweet heart neckline, strapless also, which I hadn't wanted at first, but am adding a Lace Bolero/Shrug and personally I think they look great together, ( sorry no pictures yet)!

Thanks girls. Mum and the dress lady keep going on that it would look stupid, because the dress doesn't need it, or you can't put lace with it when it doesn't have any other lace on it. Feeling strong armed into doing what they want me to!

As soon as any of you get flashes let me know. I'm desperate to see other people having done it.

Oh how lovely! thank you so much for sharing. I've done a quick google and seen some other pictures too.

Think i will try one with my dress in may when it comes in. Only way i'll know i suppose, but i think i really would like a lace bolero now.

Good to know i'm not the only one thinking about it. Had a chat with mum and emailed her some photos and she said ok then lets see what it looks like when the dress comes in May/June. Told MoH what i'm thinking of though and she said it would look really stupid and my dress is already perfect.

But now i've got a better picture in my head of what it will look like with a bolero and my headband and no veil, where as I can't imagine me in the dress with veil and headband at the moment.

This is one of my favourite dresses I have seen and I love it with the lace bolero...

Leni you're right. I will try one on when my dress comes in to the shop. The more i look online the more i'm thinking i would rather have a lace bolero than a veil. I can imagine how it will look and it makes me feel happier thinking of that rather than just the veil with a strapless dress.

bit annoyed with MoH though as she keeps telling me i would look stupid in a bolero.

This made me laugh! Ignore her...this is a ridiculous thing to say!

I think Leni is absolutely right, the lace will simply finish off your beautiful dress

I tried to talk to MoH about it again and she won't reply to me now. Wondering if I've upset her actually because her wedding dress was plain satin with a side sparkly bit and a lace bolero and she never got to wear it because she had to call off the wedding. I wonder if she thinks I am copying her dress and she's upset because she never got to wear hers and now my dress is going to be a similar style.

    Hi delicious!

My dress came with a bolero which was tulle - the dress was satin and the bolero was tulle. Never ended up wearing the bolero. Every time I tried it on with it I didn't like how they looked together - it was like it didn't belong with that dress! But I guess everyone is different and my main reason for wanting to wear something was the big operation scar on my right shoulder (which eventually got edited out of pics anyway lol)!

I ended up wearing my cape also during the ceremony...

Each to their own eh VP! I loved your cape, if I was having a winter wedding I would love a cape ha ha. Super Hero Bride!

I love that tulle bolero though, especially with the matching sparkly bits on it. I can only see how it will look when my dress comes in. It might look totally out of place like you say.
