Dressing up a horrible carpet

busybridetobe, 14 October, 2013 at 20:30 Posted on Planning 0 21

Hello everyone,

I've just joined hitched.co.uk and was hoping to get some advice from you lovely ladies!

I am getting married next year and our budget is quite small so we chose the venue based on this. The location is convenient and the capacity is bigger than all the other venues we looked at (we both have big families). However, the carpet is horrible!! It is grey with yellow stripes.

We have paid a non-refundable deposit so choosing another venue is not an option. I love everything else, but just really dislike the carpet.

Our colour scheme is navy and ivory (I originally wanted some pastel colours but think this will clash) so I was wondering if any of you had some tips on distracting the attention away from the carpet?

Thanks ?

Oh it could be a lot worse! At least it is not one of those swirly floral numbers. I actually think it is ok - choosing bold colours to go with it is a good idea I think as pale/pastels would look strange. In terms of disguising it I dont think there is much you can do. You could put a rug down but I doubt that is practical. Will it be laid out likenin the picture? Having more tables more widely spaced wouldnlessen the carpets impact. Otherwise just bear in mind that people are coming to see you get married not to a carpet showroom - no-one will care.

    Ive been to 3 weddings

2 had the same ceremony venue with a multi patterned floral carpet

1 was in a classic church so no ott carpet just a red aisle runner (although my local church has a terrible carpet lol)

1 reception had a green patterned carpet

1 reception had a cheep red carpet with 'mock' wooden dance floor

1 reception had a red carpet with gold dots in one room and hard wood floor in the other

so some people pay attention lol

to the OP there are worse carpets out there, at least its not a sticky, busy, floral carpet... good luck though

I PROMISE you noone will be bothered in the slightest. If you try and dress it up you'll be making a bigger focus of it

That's lovely compared to some I've seen! No one will notice, and even if they do notice, they're not going to care, they'll just be happy to share your day with you

It is honestly one of the nicer more neutral carpets I have seen. One venue we looked at had orange carpet!

No one will be looking at the floor, they'll be looking at you , don't fret over it.

Welcome to Hitched by the way

Ignore it! People will be standing around talking to each other, not looking at the floor. Please don't let this bother you.

Hello & welcome to hitched Smiley smile

I agree with everyone else, I couldn't tell you what the carpets are like in my venue as I love the actual venue. The guests won't notice, and they'll be busy mingling and having fun..a carpets not going to make any difference to your day Smiley smile

    Thank you everyone!!

It has made me feel so much better that so many of you have replied positively!

I think I will try to space the tables out a bit so it has less of an impact Smiley smile

And you are all right, hopefully when all our guests are there mingling, it will be fine!!

Also, I have just counted the tables in the photo I have posted and we should have a few more tables so it won't leave so much of an open space as you walk in!

I suppose it could be worse!! Smiley smile

    Thanks again girls xx

That carpet is the bees knees compared to some venue carpets iv seen.

Trust me no one will even notice it, eyes will be up on you not down on the floor unless you plan on crawling around all day.

for the evening will you be having a dance floor down ? if not and it really bothers you look into having a light up dance floor, they look great I wanted one but the budget just didn't cover it on top of everything else .

I have the same problem! Smiley sad

My venue has an awful red carpet! So i was thinking the best thing I could do would be to attempt to utilise it by tying it in with my colour scheme?

Does anyone have any advise on what colours go with red, thats not gold? Smiley atonished

Look at the carpet at my venue. My colour scheme was "InYerFace Yellow".

Nobody batted an eyelid. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Y'know, that's really quite alright as far as carpets go I reckon. Almost neutral. No one will bat an eyelid and by the time it's covered in feet it will be wholly unnoticeable Smiley smile

Every wedding I have been to has had horrible carpets, Yours is nice lol. If you are really unhappy some people get aisle runners with their names and date on or make there own.

The room will be so full of people no one will see the carpet and anyone who feels the need to criticise your colour choice based on the carpet colour shouldn't be a guest
