Drinking on your wedding day

BrogstarBride, 2 February, 2013 at 19:46 Posted on Planning 0 26

We have an early ceremony at 11am so it's going to be a long day! The drinks will be flowing and I'm worried either me or OH will be leg less lol! Any thoughts on how to pace our selves?! X

I just didn't have time to drink and didn't want to really. I can remember people saying how strong the Rum punch was but I didn't think it was. Turned out I was drinking the non alcoholic one!

My wedding was 11.30 and I drank more water than alcohol on the day- and when I did have a drink I forgot where I had left it ? the only full drink I had was a pint of larger when arriving at the venue ( im so classy haha)

You won't even notice you are not drinking - too bust talking, chatting, mingling, posing for photographs with your guests as they will all want to take your photo, etc. I barely ate or drank on my wedding day - you are on too much of a high.

I almost wish I could go back and eat all the food and drink all the nice wine (I love my food and wine) and enjoy, but at the time eating/drinking almost seems like something you don't have time for/too much of a distraction, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I really only had a couple of glasses of prosecco towards end of evening as it suddenly dawned on me we had all paid for it all and I wanted a taster!

    Lol that tickled me!!!!

We aren't getting married til 3pm but I'm bound to have a couple during prep. I'm quite a lightweight, so I think I'll alternate with soft drinks throughout the whole thing. I'm moreconcerened about my OH.... With the influence of his dad and our sisters' fellas, it could get messy! He's been married before and 'needed' to get pretty wrecked to go through with it..... Him, his dad, BIL and BM all ended up doing the Fully Monty at the reception... Top hats came in handy for them, but his dad 'forgot' to cover his modesty!!! I'm kind of dreading a rerun haha xx

I can usually handle my drink pretty well although i want to make sure i remember everything i can about the day . So the plan is to have one glass of bubbly while getting ready. Then hopefully manage one after the ceremony / after pictures. Stick to water during the meal . Then spend all night on the dancefloor so wont have time to drink much more.

thats the plan ...not saying it will pan out that way especially with my friends and family .

I ended up being bought a new pint every time I'd put the old one down and someone saw me with an empty hand, so probably didn't actually drink that much. If you're worried, add lemonade to the wine (or apparently coke with red wine works, but not tried it so can't say on taste), or drink water/soft drinks alongside/in between alcoholic drinks.

I think how tipsy you feel depends on atmosphere too. I've drunk loads where I've felt really comfortable and felt less drunk than half as much alcohol but in a less 'friendly environment, if you get my drift

I'm a bit worried about this. My lovely OH says frequently 'its not like we'll be DRINKING-drinking...?' but once the hall is decorated I think Team Bride plan to pop open the bubbly and I know how much I'll looking to quench my nerves-thirst.

We are having an afternoon buffet before our meal late afternoon as we are having a 11am wedding as well... as i don't want people legless, and it breaks the day up for the guest while we are getting our photographs done...

My reception isn't until 7pm so I won't be drinking until then. I suggest drinking water in between and soft drinks too!

I will probably end up getting hammered as I'm a lightweight when I drink fizz/wine.

Exactly this! I think you just need to pace yourself and think about what you are drinking!

I'm hoping having a fully lined stomach and lots of food during the day will help too!

I will try and pace myself......the ceremony is 1.30, I only plan to have a large glass bottle before leaving....I mean a large glass of wine. I think after that I will have vodka's with plenty of diet coke. I don't want to be to smashed as I want to remember ever moment and I've got certain things I 'd like to do in my wedding gown ;-)

    Water in between drinks!

I'll have bucks fizz in the morning, maybe 1 glass with no OJ, some champers with OH.

    Water with my meal.

Then I'll drink in the evening but not to the point where I can't remember anything, just a slightly more confident tipsy Smiley smile

I imagine there will be champers in the morning, and I'll deffo drink wine with dinner, as I love wine.

Can't imagine I will drink much in the evening though.

Ne too Mini! I was way more drunk than an elegant bride should be but I really didn't care and I think everyone else was too hammered to notice anyway!

I had a huge breakfast, one or two glasses of prosecco whilst getting the hair and make up done. Wedding at two ,meal started at around half four , couple of glasses with meal . Babysitter came at half six and then I got very very drunk ...in a happy loads of dancing way.

I will start with good intentions, however, I imagine by the end of the night I will be in the middle of the dance floor, sans shoes, drunkenly singing along with every word believing that I AM the worlds greatest dancer! I'm hoping water between each drink to begin with might help, even if I forget this by the end of the night- might ask my mum to be on water duty!

I am planning on getting absolutely MULLERED. I've paid for all that bloomin' wine, so I'm going to drink a considerable amount of it! And there is no way on God's green earth I am going to turn down free booze. I mean.....FREE booze?!! ?

I have no pretences to being elegant and / or sophisticated so have no fears about looking like a psychotic glittery baboon on the dance floor, and we have absolutely NO plan to consummate on our wedding night. In fact, if that actually happens, we will both look upon the whole thing as an unbridled failure.

I don't even care if I don't remember anything. That's what photos are for! ?

On my actual wedding day, I just didn't drink that much, despite being quite a big drinker generally. I had a couple of glasses of bubbly whilst getting ready, another when I arrived at the venue and then a couple of glasses of wine with my meal. I don't think I drank any more after that.

My home reception was another story though. Ended up falling asleep on the sofas in the marquee at 5am in my wedding dress. Classy.

Pimm's is very low in alcohol.

I'll be having a few tonics in between drinks!

If you get to the point where you are worried, have a soft drink and "lose" your proper drink for a bit.

I hardly drank anything on my wedding day. Few glasses of champers but because it was a hot day I ended up drinking more water than anyhting. My H had quite a few bottles of beers but it didn't seem to have the same effect on him as it did normally, he didn't seem drunk at all

My corset was so tight that I couldn't drink too much bubbly as I got reflux!

I got a little tipsy in the evening when we started on the tequila though.
