Drinks

Hayley, 15 August, 2021 at 10:46 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 13
Hello all, just wanted your opinions on what drinks to provide for guests? We'll be having some day guests and then about the same again as just evening guests. At the moment, we are thinking a welcome drink and wine with the meal for day guests. We then have a cash and card bar that will open up after the wedding breakfast. Is it normal for evening guests to buy all their own drinks or do we need to provide some welcome ones then? We'll be purchasing our own drinks for the welcome and dinner drinks but once the bar is open, we can only have drinks from them. Thanks.

This is how we’re doing it & I think it’s pretty normal for evening guests to buy their own.
We’ll have Pimms/Beer/OJ as a welcome drink after the ceremony, wine on table & Prosecco toast. Anything else guests will purchase at the bar.
I’d love to provide more but the budget just doesn’t allow.

This is what we’re doing too. We’ve also provided a sparkling wine for everyone to have during the speeches/toasts.
Evening guests will just buy their own (and hopefully me some too 🤣)

We are having Prosecco, beer, cider and sparking elderflower for welcome drinks, rose, white and red wine , and Prosecco and pink Prosecco for the wedding breakfast. When this runs out it’s a cash bar so evening guests will have to pay. I’ve only been to one evening reception where they gave out drinks vouchers so I wouldn’t think your evening guests will be expecting free drinks.

We are doing the same. Our ceremony is at a different location, an hour away from reception, so we are providing some cans of pre made cocktails at that ceremony location as a drinks reception during photos etc and then we are making up a bag of snacks for our day guests for the journey between the 2 locations as as there will be a 5 hour gap between the guests travelling to the ceremony and meal and I know I hate being hungry at weddings! You do what is right for you but I have been to lots of weddings and only once was it all included and that was because it was in a field so no bar! don't stress, people are accustomed to paying for their own drinks now so just enjoy the day x

What lovely ideas Charlotte 🙂 Thanks, definitely reassuring. Although ours in kind of in a field/farm yard haha, but we are having a bar.

You are fine then, just check with your bar provider if is cash or card and let your guests know in advanc. Went to a festival once and was cash only as no WiFi to take payment, but we didn't know, no drinkies as we had no cash!

Thanks Charlotte, it's not far from a town so mobile signal is good there so should be able to use that. There's a cash point just across the road if all else fails 🙂

We have paid for all our guests to have a drink with the wedding breakfast and a drink for the toast.
They will buy their own drinks throughout the rest of the day/evening. X
