Drinks and non-alcoholic options

Charlotte, 20 August, 2020 at 15:37 Posted on Planning 0 2

I'm getting a bit ahead of myself with drink planning already, but my in-laws-to-be were asking about this.

For our drinks reception, we're probably having kir royales made with creme de mure (with a blackberry and a sprig of rosemary), plus beers (and the option of plain sparkling). For the non-alcoholic option I was thinking of blackberry cordial with the same garnish but I am worried there is a risk of them getting mixed up as they will look exactly the same! I could maybe ask for mint instead of rosemary in the non-alcoholic one. Am I overthinking this? We would also offer orange squash for the children/ those who would prefer a still drink.

They all sound super yummy! You could ask for the non alcoholic to be in a tall glass rather than a champagne flute that will make them distinguishable?

I would advise going for a drink that looks different to ensure there is no mixup.

I'm not able to drink alcohol at all for medical reasons so I get very nervous at weddings when there is no obvious difference between the alcoholic & non alcoholic versions of the drink.

My preference would be for a drink that is served in the same type of glass, but that is a different colour (or at least, a different shade) to the alcoholic variety. A plain glass never feels so 'celebratory', and the problem with garnishes is that it would be too easy for the wrong garnish to end up in one or two of the glasses - I had a very close shave with precisely this issue at a friend's wedding. Fortunately, a mutual friend with a keen sense of smell fetched my glass for me and realised just in time that it wasn't safe for me to drink.
