Drinks during wedding breakfast

Millie, 26 October, 2022 at 18:48 Posted on Planning 1 5
Hiya, I was just wondering what people have done about soft drinks during the wedding breakfast. Obviously there is water and wine on the tables, but if someone wants a beer or a soft drink with their meal, I don’t really want people up and down to the bar? Any advice welcome x

You could always ask your venue to provide table service only? Get the venue manger or MC to announce that there is table service only. Allows people to get the drinks they want without getting up and down. However, any wedding I've ever been too always has people up and down for drinks during the meal and it didn't have any negative impact on the wedding! If you don't want people to do it during speeches, first dance etc, you could ask the venue to close the bar for a few minutes at those points

I think most people would get drinks beforehand and I really don’t think you’d notice people up and down, it’s all part of the atmosphere! If you’re really bothered then you’ll either need to request (and maybe pay for) table service, or just close the bar I imagine

Agree with Abi, most of our guests who were not having wine got them before the meal, a few did go and get another but did it between courses and honestly was not a big deal and we didn't really notice

Ask the venue for table service. I asked for the table wine to be removed as we’ve only got 32 guests coming and I worked out only about 12 of them would actually be drinking it. So instead have allocated the money that would’ve been the wine package (£10pp) to go behind the bar for table service and people can order whatever drinks they want that way 🙂

I was really conscious of this and ademant I didn't want people getting up and down, but actually on the day I didn't even notice until my bridesmaids got up and went to chat to my friends from the hen do. I think it adds to the atmosphere more so than people being stuck to the table they are on. I had 80 people sit down as a guide for you and your numbers. Honestly think venues should offer an alternative drink to wine as part of packages for this reason though, we had bottles unopened left unopened. I ended up giving guests bottles to take home.
