Dry cleaning before or after alterations?

Zoe, 10 of March of 2023 at 14:57 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 10
Hello! I have just bought a dress in the sample sale and whilst to me it looks ok, I’m wondering if I should get it dry cleaned and it would look even better (probably)? Also, should I do this before or after the alterations? The internet is saying bridal places day before, but dry cleaners say after! 😂

I would do it after as there may be fibre strands/dust on it from alterations and also will ensure it is perfect for the day once you have had your final fitting

I would get alterations after cleaning as most good seamstresses will steam your dress before giving it to you.

I guess that after would be better, my opinion.

Hi, be aware that cleaning can shrink the fabric of the dress slightly, so make sure if you are getting it cleaned you try it on after to ensure it still fits you in case you need some extra alterations.

    Hi Sophie,

Lots of bridal shops do sample sales at the end of the seasons to sell of their sample dresses that they will no longer be stocking, or that designers will no longer let them order. Secondhand bridalwear shops often have sample dresses too.
