Dry cleaning wedding dress - before or after alterations?

Mets, 3 September, 2011 at 13:58 Posted on Planning 0 1

Hi everyone,

I bought my wedding dress and it's an amazing Soterro and Midgley dress. I need to get it altered and also dry cleaned as there are some marks on the train. However I'm not sure whether to get the dress dry cleaned before or after alterations - the seamstress doesn't do dry cleaning.

Also as my dress has a lot of detailing/beading everyone is scaring me about getting it dry cleaned - my mum/sis think I should leave it in case the dry cleaners ruin the dress! I'm really not sure and I have a feeling it's going to be expensive to dry clean the entire dress and that's not really required - just two areas where there are marks. Is it possible to get only the marks removed? Should I even bother dry cleaning it (although tbh I'm such a perfectionist and I want the dress to look perfect the answer is probably YES!)

Thanks in advance - oh btw I'm getting married in August next year so not looking to do alterations until 2 months before.

    Hi chuck,

I have also bought a soterro dress and have been thinking the exact same thing!

Ive been quoted £120 for the cleaning from a dress cleaning company that are supposed to be quite good.

I just dont know what to have done first ?
