Dummy cake tiers

KyleighB, 26 of November of 2013 at 09:07 Posted on Planning 0 3

So orginally I was going to make the cake myself to keep costs down but Ive now realised that its a crazy idea! Now my thoughts are to use dummy tiers?!

I'd like a three tier cake and to use the dummies on the bottom and the top meaning that we can still cut the middle one. Then buying the slabs of cake to serve to the guests. I'll get someone else (a friend of a friend) to make the middle tier and ice all three, then i'll stack them and decorate with fresh flowers.

Has anyone else used them before or is thinking about doing it??

Our 5th tier will be a dummy tier. My fsil also had a 2 tier cake which was all dummy. She got it iced and decorated it herself. You honestly couldn't tell, I didn't know it was a fake cake until after the wedding.

Not sure how much a dummy cake layer would be but Waitrose sell plain white iced sponge and chocolate cakes (25cm) for £16

    And a 20cm fruit cake for £26 https://www.waitrose.com/shop/DisplayProductFlyout?productId=86639

Is another option for you xx

Using dummy cakes is a good idea and no one will ever know! I had no choice for my daughter because it had to travel from Northern Ireland to Grantham in Lincs.

I'm having two dummy cakes for the top two tiers of my four tier wedding cake with two tiers of fruit cake at the bottom. We are also bringing out cut up cake bars of chocolate and carrot cake so no one will know. My mum is going to town on decoration and has already started decorating the dummy cakes for the wedding next September. No way you could do this with sponge!!
