Dumplings with plain flour?

hazel, 29 December, 2008 at 18:05 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

Am in a holiday cottage with only plain flour and no baking powder. Is there anyway I can make dumplings with plain or will they be beyond mank?

I think if you're prepared for them to be heavier/more dense than normal you might get away with it. I made some with strong plain flour by mistake once and whilst they were far from ideal they were edible. They were ones I'd made for the girls so were smaller than I'd normally do, I wonder if being miniture was their saving grace?

Nope. Am in holiday cottage so have none of the usual gubbins. Am such a div as I deliberately bought plain flour this afternoon <belms self>

Could you make yorkshire pud instead of dumplings?

Now that is a good idea. Had bought fresh horseradish for the dumplings and I'm not sure horseradish yorkshires would work but can always leave that for another day.

<does victory lap of homour> ? Just chuck the horseradish in the stew, or serve it on the side.
