Eczema? Ringworm? Plague?

Kebab thief, 30 July, 2008 at 21:23 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 19

Ok I'm pretty sure it's not the latter ?

For a couple of weeks I've had really itchy patches on my forearms, they're raised patches of what look like little pale bumps but the skin area is redder than the surrounding if that makes any sense. I tried applying Hc45 for a couple of days but it didn't make any difference so I stopped as I didn't know if I was doing the right thing. I don't want to waste the GPs time with it as it's hardly important.

Any ideas?

Oh and it seems to be spreading....

E45 does nothing for my eczema

Lay off the dairy and see if it helps - it helps mine. oh and anything perfumed etc

Dairy would only help if the rash is caused by lactose intolerance though surely.

Its probably some sort of allergic reaction. If its spreading you probably should see the GP

It's itchy, it's causing you discomfort and it seems to be spreading..? How could that be construed as wasting your GP's time? It might be something that's easily fixed and don't you want to find out what it is? It's kind of what doctors are there for, to ease our suffering. ?

Cheers Zoe, I feel better for knowing ?

Thanks MBK, does it sound like eczema to you? I was using hydrocortisone cream (1%) on it and it hasn't done anything. I don't really have dairy in my diet anyway so I don't think that can be causing it, it's very strange.

Thanks for the link Ladelley, I've just had a quick look and it appears that it's on the torso and then spreads to other areas, this is only on my forearms. It also mentions a syphilis rash on there, don't tell me I've got the clap ??

I truly am rubbish aren't I? I might try asking the pharmacist tomorrow and see what they suggest and if I don't get anywhere I'll consider phoning the docs.

It really is what they are there for, but the pharmacist might have an idea

    You aren't rubbish, just diseased!

I sometimes get round, red itchy patches of eczema on my legs and sometimes on my wrist. I find that using moisturiser regularly helps prevent it getting too bad, but if it is bad I sometimes use hydrocortisone cream. You can buy it over the counter - don't have to see you GP.

I'd suggest speaking to a pharmacist and seeing what they recommend.
