I found the service at Emma Roy absolutely appalling.

    Places I visited and liked:

    Eleganza
    Caroline Castigliano
    Berketex
    Kavelle
    Pronuptia
    Butterflies
    Liliana Dabic

Think that's all the good ones.

I really didn't like Emma Roy, Pretty Woman or Alma Ogilvie, though obviously you might have a totally different experience.

I had a great experience in emma roy with my sister although we didnt buy there.

The lady let us both try on bridesmaid dresses, I think we notched up 14 or 15 and she then let me try on wedding dresses even though I had no appointment for that. We were there for nearly 2 hours in total upstairs in the massive fitting area.

I couldnt fault them. Pretty woman and butterflies were both great also.

Caroline castagliano is the one charging £20 to go in her door and liliana dabic has closed her shop in morningside. These are both expensive shops and dont stock maggies

Me? I don't know Edinburgh unfortunately. I might only live an hour away but I've only visited Edinburgh a few times. I did visit Eleganza in Hamilton and HATED HATED HATED the place with vengeance. They made me fill out a form with my budget and styles so you’d think they would have a pretty clear idea of what I wanted….eh no! I said I wanted sparkles and not a fishtail dress but apart from that was open to ideas so I got plain fishtail dresses. I left the shop nearly in tears and the woman said to be “well you’re the first girl that has came in here and left without any dresses written down”. I wish I had replied ”no wonder your horrible and snotty and unless someone has over £2k to spend on a dress your not interested”.

I haven't heard of Emma Roys either. Are you going shopping soon? I wish I could do it again!

Where are you travelling from? If you're going through or are nearer to Hawick then try Border Brides... they were lovely!

wow PG that sounds bloody awful........

to be honest, the local shops near me stock maggies. T'would be easier for me, if I were lucky.... i've written down 4 of one designer and 1 from the other... ... and I wont be taking sh!t from anyone else, lol

'yes i'm looking for something with a 1940s influence....' that'll stump them!

I had a pretty bad overall experience with Emma Roy. I got my dress from them and while one assistant was lovely (she actually picked out my dress for me from the selection), the other who helped me was horrid and I wasn't particularly happy with the attitude of their seamstress either. They also lost my dress for 3 weeks after it was delivered - it turned up in a cupboard, apparently!

My BM dresses came from Butterflies and they were fantastic. They also supplied a tiara at very short notice for me after ER couldn't fulfil the order.

The woman at Berketex was very nice and I've also heard good things about both Pretty Woman and Susan Gregory from friends. The prices at Caroline Castigliano scared me too much to go in.

Wasn't it on the news last week that they were charging or going to? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7470588.stm

Yip, avoid Emma Roy, that is where I got my dress from, I ended up spending almost as much on alterations as my dress.....and my dress wasn't cheap!

This was last year when I was a naive B2B!

Link's not working for me, however, it's entirely possible they're going to but they don't currently.

Well for what its worth I have had a great experience in Emma Roy so far!!!! I really enjoyed getting my dress there - haven't been for any fittings so far though.

Am scared now, but I guess its too late. Guess its all in the 'eye of the beholder' - I found Pronuptia in Edinburgh absolutely vile however a friend had a great experience.

the article is that they were starting charging from last week. They will put the money towards the dress of your choosing. If you choose one!

I think thats too cheeky given the cost of their dresses in the first place. My friend went there and with each dress she looked at, the assistant emphasised how expensive it was. She was almost telling her that she wasnt their type of customer. needless to say, friend did not try on and did not go back.

Their loss really as she spent over 4K with lorraine weselby on her and her bridesmaids.

I thought they were too snooty and didn't go there for mine either. (shame though as they do have some gorgeous dresses!)

hi, i had a shocking experience round all the shops in Edinburgh and ended up at the lovely Aliya Rose in Cupar.

Pretty Women: had appointment booked and felt like an airport lounge, staff were uninterested and bored, unhelpful and i was very body conscious about the whole thing. Couldn't look in mirror myself and was forced to parade across shop as they were so busy there was no mirror free near changing rooms.

Emma Roy: didn't go in after close friend had appalling treatment there

Elenganza Spoza: women tried to put me in a frou frou dress that i hated. felt like i was an imposition to her and getting in her way. very rude, sample dresses filfthy and tatty. Tried to sell me a sample dress for £1500 that was falling apart!

    Pronuptia: customer service shocking

I would go to Anne and Bobbies in Bathgate - think they do Maggies and heard good things

i've decided to avoid edinburger..... the designers i like are available to me locally so i'm gonna make appts nearer home. Will be a lot easier for me if I buy one and have to attend fittings too.......

i'm rather glad I asked though Smiley smile
