Elopement abroad plus honeymoon

Hi everyone!!
We recently got engaged and have decided to go for an elopement as the traditional wedding idea is too big and overwhelming for us, we want to keep it to just the two of us for a more intimate day, and throw a party when we get back with friends.

We are thinking of getting married perhaps on a beach and having the honeymoon in the same country while we are there. We are quite adventurous so some place where there is plenty to do, rather than just on a beach! Unsure of costing, I'd rather do the majority of the planning and organising it myself to cut down costs.
Has anyone had any experience or doing a similar thing that can offer any tips or advice on how to get started and some good places to look at?
