Elopement wedding

Aimee, 17 December, 2025 at 08:21 Posted on Planning 2 4
We are planning an elopement wedding with just parents to the ceremony. Has anyone had experiences of this.

Would you have changed anything? Are you happy with the choice of just parents or would you invite everyone?

That sounds like such a lovely plan — eloping with just Retro Bowl 26 your parents can make the day feel really personal and meaningful!

We did consider having a wedding with just our mothers as witnesses (our fathers had both died before we got married), but decided instead to have a small wedding with a maximum of 30. (Thanks to Covid regs, we ended up with only 13!)

I think it depends on your view of the wedding ceremony and marriage itself. For us, community is important, so we felt that we wanted our closest friends and family to be present, to support us as we started this new relationship. Also, I like that in the future, there will be people other than the two of us who remember our wedding day. But if these aspects aren't important to you, I can see the point of an elopement - and it's certainly a lot less hassle!

If you yourselves are worried that you will have regrets, it's worth giving it some thought as to whether you will be happy with your choice looking back on it. But if you are happy with your decision, and only questioning it because it's not what 'most people' do, or because people around you are criticising it, then just go ahead. It's your wedding, not theirs!

Elopement weddings with just parents can be really special and personal. If intimacy and low stress are your priorities, it works perfectly. The main thing is being happy with your choic....don’t worry about what “most people” do. If you value having more friends or family present for memories and support, you could consider a slightly larger guest list, but if not, keeping it small makes the day more meaningful and manageable.
