Empty room....what to do with it?

emabee, 18 March, 2014 at 20:26 Posted on Planning 0 11

We are getting married in August above a beautiful London pub. We have a huge dance floor and a separate bar with an empty room in between. It will be used for reception drinks during the day but will be empty in the evening. I will have a table in it with our guest book and card box etc but what else can I do with it? I'd like to give the evening guests some kind of entertainment. We're not having a photo booth as the DJ is doing that in the main room.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fill this room with some sort of entertainment with out pulling people away from the dance floor for too long? Budget is minimal too!!

Thanks Smiley smile

I looked at getting a fun casino. It involves no real money, and lasts a minimum of 3 hours. It wasn't massively priced - 2 tables plus 3 staff at around £400 - £500.

I can't get it now as I kind of maxed out our budget on venue decoration, but it did look good. x

Thanks, I love that idea but don't really want to stretch to spending that much if I can help it. I really want something I can either do myself or perhaps buy and sell on afterwards? x

What about a few games? It would depend on the average ages of your guests, but maybe something like Twister or Monopoly? I dunno, maybe I'm sounding crazy in my eagerness to help!

Or maybe, a photo display? Pictures of the two of you together from your time together, or even when you were children? That would be quite cheap to set up and people would enjoy it.

Thanks, I LOVE the photo idea, that's brilliant because I can make it myself. Love the games idea too......ooh I wonder if I can get a giant Twister?! We have no kids though, average age 30-40 I reckon and don't want anyone breaking any bones! Ha ha ha!

I went to a wedding at the weekend that had this- a bar area, a room in between & then the main room with dj/dance floors table.

The room in the middle just had the guest book & the evening buffet.

What about choco fountain/sweet buffet, magician, caricaturist or having some large games, eg jenga.

Thank you! We're having an evening buffet but just assumed that they would put it in the main room next to the dance floor. I didn't think of putting it in the empty room. Only thing is, we're having bacon sandwiches and I don't want ketchup or dirty fingers on my guest book! Ha ha!

We have a large unused space at our wedding venue too, and we're thinking about using it as a photo area, everybody loves a good photo right?

We always play a game in the summer too, with a piece of wood, some nails and a hammer with a really thin head (I don't know the technical name) and the aim of the game is to hit the nails into the wood, with one hit, it's a great game to get people involved, and very competitive, as long as you have sensible wedding guests that is! That would be cheap and fun, whether it's suitable for a wedding is another matter.

All the ideas so far sound fab.

Something else I've heard suggested is a DIY photobooth - camera on a tripod, silly props from a party shop/ the internet, and let your guests create you some unexpected memories.

Is there seating in your bar? One of the venues we looked at had a separate room (to the side) and we were going to use it as a sort of chill out room. I despise dancing so you'd always find me sitting down chatting at a wedding. You could put bean bags in it, or if the venue had comfy seats you could borrow.
