entertainment during meal

Saracroft251, 19 October, 2008 at 20:08 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hey all!

Cant believe that the weekend is gone already Smiley sad

I was telling a friend this weekend about our planned entertainment for the wedding and she was really shocked in a bad way- we are having:

string quartet playing from 15 min before ceremony, during ceremony and for 2 hours during the drinks reception, then we are having nothing until 7pm when the dj starts up.

My friend was shocked that we werent having any music during the meal??

I have never been to a wedding where music is played during the wedding breakfast, is this normal? WHat have you ladies booked?

Thanks x x

Me either, i'm sure there's been a few posts like this before and most people said the same, ie that no music was played, however I'm sure there will be some people who have had music. Personally we won't be having anything during our meal.

    Hey.

We were in the same situation as you regarding the string quartet and when they'd be playing. We hadn't planned on having anything throughout the meal, but when we saw our wedding coordinator, she said we could make up a few CDs which they'd play throughout the meal.

The more we thought about it, though, the more I realised I'd be missing the string quartet playing as we'd be off having pictures taken, and going round to see people. We ended up having them play throughout the meal too. Ok, it made it a bit more expensive, but for me it was a fantastic decision. It was a fan=b talking point for the guests, and it was lovely for me to able to enjoy them too as it was me that wanted them in the first place!

Sorry, that doesn't really help much, does it.

    Hiya

we are having a clarinet and guitarist/singer doing swing type stuff for the reception drinks, then our DJ (who is also the weddign singer) is compiling a list of requests we have made for songs (moon river etc) to be played in the background during the meal. the last 2 weddings i've been to had music during the meal (one was a jazz band and the other was a 22 piece band-that one was waaaay too much TBH!!!!)

I've never been to a wedding breakfast with music either. To be honest I hadn't even thought about it! I doubt we will though.

I've never heard music either during a meal but decided to have it - just to be different. I'm just making up jazz compilations to play on a cd player in the background, nothing too unobtrusive.

We didn't have it, and to be honest I've never noticed it at anyone else's wedding. Too much chatting!!

We're just having a CD that we've compiled playing quietly in the background during the wedding breakfast. The hotel wedding co-ordinator suggested it for reasons that I can't for the life of me remember but I obviosly thought that she had a point or I wouldn't be bothering lol

We asked about having music during the meal and were advised against it by the wedding coordinator at the venue. She said that in order for it to be loud enough to be heard by everyone, it would have to be too loud for the people sitting closest to it. I've never been to a wedding where music was played, and we didn't miss it at ours. I wouldn't have heard it if it had been there.

Hmm, I have never been to a wedding with music being played through the meal, but we are thinking of having background jazz/swing music on a cd to play.

We're having a pianist who sings both in English and Spanish...which I think my Spanish side of the family will love! He has the most amazing voice!

I think that music throughout the meal is unnecessary, people will converse at this time and comment on how lovely everything is etc etc, if you have music you wont be able to hear the nice comments! i also think people will get fed up of the music, string quartet or not, and go outside for some peice and quiet.

i will not be having music through the meal. cant afford it anyway,

hope this helps and not affends
