Morning Hitchers

I thought it might be a nice idea for any brides getting married in Essex to share any venue or supplier ideas or recommendations they may have and discuss all things Essex wedding in general Smiley smile

So talk to me about your wedding! Where's your venue? What are you researching at the moment? What else is going on?

I'm a Gosfield Hall bride getting married in September, with a huge to do list, currently on the lookout for my shoes and bridesmaid dresses...and meeting with florists at the weekend...

I feel so behind!! Yet we only got engaged 3 weeks ago and people are making me feel bad for viewing venues and getting ready to book one, saying I am so far off and rushing it!!

Ah ok *breathes a sigh of relief* sounds like it worked out for the best for you in the end.

You do have a bit of a mission on your hands with the BM dresses. I understand your concerns about online sellers, but I have heard good things about sellers on Etsy.

What a great idea for a gift list! Very imaginative.

Ohhhhh lucky you SunnyBrown (did I remember that right?) - I am so jealous of you going to Down Hall tomorrow but we've done two wedding fayres, a weekend break and a picnic there on the day we gave notice since we booked the wedding (and a weekend break before) so I guess I don't really need to go again just yet. I love going there though, it turns me into tranquil relaxed bride me, as opposed to obsessing about every little detail Bridezilla me that has become the norm when I'm at home!

Glad you both like the idea for the gift list. We wanted something totally different and also something with loads of different cost options - so our guests can buy anything from a £5 bottle of wine to 'stock' our winerack, to a restaurant gift voucher of their choice for the cost of their choice, to National Trust membership (£45) to tickets for us to walk over the Millennium Dome (£66) to one that we're desperately hoping a group might get together to buy - an up close and personal date with Mr and Mrs Orangutan at Colchester Zoo (£175)!

Can I ask a random question? Where are you all spending your last night's of singledom?!

    Hi

I'm currently trying to plan my wedding and looking for a venue in Essex! :]

I'm on a major small budget, so we are holding our reception in a friends garden (huge garden!) but I am stuck trying to find somewhere that does just wedding ceremonies.

I don't want to get married in a church and wanted to see if there were any other options than a registry office.

Are any of you having just a wedding ceremony at a venue or been to a wedding like this?!

    Thanks!

Hi Charlotte, where about in Essex are you? Colchester town hall is gorgeous and you have just your ceremony only there. Lots of places will let you just marry there. I know so done who had only their ceremony at hylands house and another at crabbs barn.

DreamCatchMe and Palma Violets, I live in Southend, but I don't mind travelling a bit to the venue. I am looking to have quite a small wedding so all my guests are in the same area as me so travelling about 30 - 60 minutes wouldn't be a problem.

My budget overall is 2000 - max 3000, so ideally I would like to spend under £1000 on a venue.

I don,t know your area of Essex quite as well. I am not sure how many people you are thinking of. When searching the sites suggested Rayleigh Windmill or Southend Museum. Both looked pretty snd unusual but I have no idea what they look like in the flesh. In maldon you can hire the moot hall which is quite old and cute. My previous suggestions do fit in budget but may be a little far. Do you have any idea of what you would like?

Rayleigh windmill is lovely but only holds 20 I think. Pricewise it was really reasonable but we didnt consider it as even our close family numbered too many. How about southend pier? You can get married on the end of it now. Priory park do weddings too as does southchurch hall gardens and porters, the mayors house. I went to a wedding at porters and it was lovely. Very private and a lovely garden for photos.

I love a random question Smiley smile I will be staying at my Nan's, hopefully with my MOH but I haven't asked her yet. I can't get into my venue until the morning of the wedding. Have you decided what you're doing?

It's a girlie night for you then! We're staying at Down Hall the night before, bucking tradition and having our last night before I do together! Both sets of parents will be there too, along with my siblings and a few other guests who have long journeys so are travelling the night before. DH does private dining packages so we'll be having an informal supper together (there's a Halloween Costume Ball going on too so there should be some interesting looking guests around the place from outside of our party!) which is quite nice as our parents haven't even met yet, let alone anyone else! Halloween is also the anniversary of my parents meeting so I think i'll find a way to make a fuss of them too! MOH/Sister keeps trying to convince me I have to go to bed early but I'm a night owl at the best of times so I wish her luck with that! Smiley smile

    What's everyone else doing?

    @SunnyBrownDiamor

You're not rushing it at all! Don't let anyone make you feel bad hun. Everyone keeps telling me how quickly the wedding will come around. I figured if I do 2 or 3 things each month then I'll (hopefully) feel less stressed closer to the time. Plus, I wanted to make the most of those first few months of excitement and booked a date/venue within 2 months of being engaged Smiley smile

I'm getting married at Braxted Park, a Georgian mansion in Essex next year. They did offer us either venue only or ceremony only. There is a church in the grounds or have a ceremony in the Knott Garden, which is lovely too!

Might be worth giving them a call to ask...here's the web page anyway, hope that helps!

Hi CharlotteMay, have you looked at Orsett Hall? They have a wedding chapel in their grounds you can hire just for the wedding ceremony.

I got married 3 weeks ago at Crondon Park. I would recommend Crondon first of all, they made a couple of slip ups with the music but were otherwise great, especially during the planning process and it looked beautiful on the day.

Secondly I really recommend Beautiful Hair 4 Weddings as a hair stylist. Tina is not only an amazing hair stylist, doing a wonderful job on our hair, she went above and beyond. She made sure I didn't lift a finger while getting ready, she helped me organise my very scatty best friend, she got me into my dress and because we didn't have a TOG for the getting ready process she took us out to the courtyard and took photos of us. She is amazing!

I would also recommend Pengelly Photography, they did an amazing job on the day - getting everyone organised without being bossy and took amazing photos that we are so happy with.

Lastly I would recommend Laura Jane MakeUp. I was a bit nervous at first as I was very fussy with my makeup, but I loved it on the day and it lasted the whole day, even in hot weather!

    Ooh how could I forget!
We got both our wedding rings from Alba Rose - great service and great quality rings.

We stayed at The Lion Inn at Boreham. This place is beautiful, our room had a private courtyard attached with a blossom tree outside and pretty pink fallen blossom everywhere so was pretty as a picture to start with. Rooms are beautiful and spacious especially the double deluxe and bridal suite. Because it's a small hotel with only 16 rooms you get a really personal service there. The lady who helped my best friend set up her sofa bed the night before the big day came and snuck us in some toast on the morning of the big day then when we were all ready came and snuck a look and oohed and ahhed! I hear the food is great there too but we didn't get chance to try it!
