Morning Hitchers

I thought it might be a nice idea for any brides getting married in Essex to share any venue or supplier ideas or recommendations they may have and discuss all things Essex wedding in general Smiley smile

So talk to me about your wedding! Where's your venue? What are you researching at the moment? What else is going on?

I'm a Gosfield Hall bride getting married in September, with a huge to do list, currently on the lookout for my shoes and bridesmaid dresses...and meeting with florists at the weekend...

    Thanks SunnyBrownDiamonds138!

Anywhere at the moment! Loved Blake Hall but was booked up all the dates we wanted.

Will have a look a Maidens barn, that's not one I'd seen- thank you!

Would be better off at a different time of year I think but H2B is a teacher so limited if we want to go away straight after.

As others have suggested, Maidens barn is beautiful. As is Crabbs.

There's also the Reid Rooms, Gaynes Park, Channels, Crondon Park & Ye Olde Plough (Bulphan) offhand which all have a barn look/feel.

But there are loads of other gorgeous ones. You'll find one ?

Sorry can't figure out how to quote :/ sent off for the brochure for maidens barn so fingers crossed ! Thanks Pavone

Had just looked at the brochure for Blake hall- when I found out they weren't available didn't want to look round in case loved it even more!!

Hoping for a civil ceremony that we can have outside - weather depending. Was also going to have a look at Prested Hall which although not a barn had the outside space - if anyone has any experience with them?

If you don't mind me asking- SunnyBrownDiamonds138 how far in advance did you need to book to get a date in the school hols?

    Thanks all!

I'm an Essex bride but getting married just on the Essex/Suffolk Border at Priory Hall in Hadleigh, Suffolk. We are getting married in August so not too long to go now.

The company doing our flowers are amazing so thought I would share: The Vintage Flower Company. They are based in Maldon and the owner Clare Luke has been really helpful. They do have a website and a facebook page.

All of our suppliers are booked, just waiting for a few RSVPS and then we are more or less done. H2B has started writing his speech as has my dad so all systems go at the moment!

    Hi everyone, newbie here.

We're Essex-based and looking at venues in Essex, Kent and Suffolk, trying to find our perfect setting.

I'd love a church wedding but my OH really wouldn't so we've agreed that we won't. I know he'd do it (I'm catholic, he's atheist) if I asked him to, but he wouldn't be comfortable and the significance of the Mass could be lost on him. So I'd rather it be somewhere that we can both enjoy. Not looking forward to telling my grandparents though!

I'm liking the look of Creeksea Place, has anyone been there? There are loads of lovely venues in our area, but we know people who have married at each of them, and we want somewhere different from our friends.

I'm not really sure where to start with planning. We're v recently engaged and have agreed our ideal date (June 2016), I've asked my BMs and MOH. He's chosen his Best Man and ushers, but hasn't asked them. I think we've agreed the colour scheme and we both know the rings we'd like. We've written a rough guest list so we have an idea of numbers. I really want to get properly planning now - I feel like 2 years is too long to wait! I'm not sure what we need to do first though - I guess the venue / date is the best place to start?!

I'm soooo grateful for this site and the forums, it's all v reassuring :-)

    Hi Mrs AAtobe!

We started planning in Mid 2012 for our Sept 2015 wedding so I know how you feel with it being a while off.

The first thing we did was get venues sorted- we couldn't book anything else until we had a date and to have a date, we needed the venue to be available ?

From there we focused on the things that tend to get booked up first. We hired a caterer, photographer and videographer first and have been booking the odd thing here and there ever since- flowers, band, MUA etc

It's always good to take your time and do some research, but definitely focus on booking the things which are important to you and book up early first.

Enjoy the planning whilst you can, it flies by!

    @MrsAAToBe

You really do sound like you have everything on track. I'm probably at the same stage, still with 18 months to go. Every now and again the panic sets in - I hope I'm not the only one?!

I know what you mean about getting married somewhere new, somewhere where our friends and family will be seeing something for the first time! We've booked Braxted Park (www.braxtedparkweddings.co.uk) have you heard of it? It might suit you and OH as you can get married in the church, in the orangery, in the rose garden - there's loads of options.

I really want to get on and start looking for dresses but have a major diet start before I even want to start looking.

Girls - How long before the wedding should I be looking - 6 months? a year?

    xx

Braxted park is lovely, I used to live around the corner. I am the same with the dress, want to lose a stone in the next year, but I have been told some shops can take 9 months to get the dress made etc after ordering. Remember you can always have it altered.

Hi Pandabarney, thanks for the florist recommendation! They were on my shortlist :-) I'm glad you've found someone you're happy with and hopefully some of our other brides might be helped by your suggestion. Your OH and dad sound very prepared :-)

    Thank you!

Venue now almost officially sorted- Prested Hall near Colchester - ceremony outside if the sun shines! It was the bunnies and ducklings running around the gardens that got me ?
