Evening Caterer

Weddingjuly2023, 5 May, 2023 at 11:31 Posted on Planning 0 1
Hi all,

With a couple of months to go until the wedding I'm feeling quite stressed.
I called my evening caterer last week to find out that they don't provide any serving items e.g. disposable plates or knives/forks. The food they are providing is not finger food and is a rice dish. It's not crazy cheap either at over £10 a head. I knew they didn't provide crockery but assumed that they would provide the food in something, so we've had to order this in. They've also mentioned that they don't provide any bins for people to put rubbish in. The venue have said they can do this but at a charge because they would expect the caterer to dispose of the rubbish.
I feel really frustrated that this wasn't made clear to us when we booked them and now we have more little things to organise and pay for.
Am I being unreasonable or is this normal? There's so much to think about, it's just another added stress Smiley sad

Heya, I feel your frustration, I'd be annoyed with that too. I'd be annoyed at the caterer rather than the venue. (but what sort of venue doesn't have bins?!! that's really silly too) We don't always think of all these types of details when we are booking the venue do we?!

I have an appointment with our venue this week to pin up with whitetack, various different 5m lengths of material that I bought as a sample just to try out decorating it LOL - wasn't my first thought but our date is July 15th so looking at details now!!

How do the caterers 'cater' if they don't provide plates?! I think that's ridiculous!! I have a friend who used to work at a big catering company. When we first booked our venue I misunderstood and thought we could provide catering (we actually can't, they want us to use theirs, but its yummy and yes expensive but all booked now and sorted!) - I called said friend to see if she wanted to do it and that was one of the first things she said, does the venue have tables, chairs, tablecloths, glasses, plates, cutlery etc as that's a big deal whoever has to provide it.

Not trying to create more stress but personally I would be looking to see if any other caterers were available. Obviously if you've already paid a big deposit then no point, but just seems really odd to me.
