Evening ceremonies in Glasgow?

definitelymaybe, 30 April, 2012 at 23:29 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi all,

It's one of those moments when life smacks you in the face and you realise what's important to you. I have my wedding booked for next August with 80 day guests and 140 at night. I had planned to return to work early from maternity leave to save for wedding but I'm finding it impossible to leave the little lady (especially when I know a large chunk of wages will go on childcare). Sooooo I've spoken to future hubby and we've agreed family's important and a change needs to be made HOWEVER he now wants to get married abroad just the two of us and I have my heart set on sharing my big day with family and friends so we are trying to reach a happy medium.

Does anyone know of a venue where we could get married in the evening and then go straight into the reception?. I know that probably sounds awful but we were thinking if we could have a hall of some sort and have it set up with rows of chairs for the ceremony (say around 7pm) then have the guests retire somewhere for drinks while we quickly set up the hall for evening reception. We just cannot afford to pay for 80 guests to have dinner (it's £76 a person for dinner, drinks and buffet) but would find it really difficult to cut the numbers down to an affordable level. If we were able to get married at reception venue all our guests would be able to witness our vows and we could afford to do the place up nice and still have money left over for a lovely honeymoon abroad. We were also considering saying on invites that presents are not necessary (as we feel it's rude to expect them when we're not doing wedding breakfast).

Does anyone know anywhere in Glasgow/Falkirk region that is likely to do this? Or indeed have any other helpful suggestions?

Since you are in Scotland, I don't see any problems with what you are hoping for as there is not time limitations on when you can get married, this is not the case in England where you have to get married between the hours of 8am and 6pm.

Thanks for letting me know that! I've just never heard of anyone having their wedding at night before so was unsure if you are able to. That's odd that you can't in England though!

What about Sloans? Their ballroom is gorgeous and where I'd considered when we were thinking of going away ourselves.

    Or

A friend just got marrid in kinlochard village hall and it was gorgeous, might be worth a look.

    http://www.standrewsinthesquare.com/ is nice too.

And this is something else we considered and surprised a the prices for the hire http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/Parks_Outdoors/VenueHire/
