Evening food

Charley, 2 of November of 2022 at 12:25 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi!

We are currently planning our wedding for next October and are wondering how common it is to put on extra food for the evening? Is it worth doing because it is coming out at over £1k!

Depends on what time your main meal is. If you are eating after 6pm then you can get away without it I guess, but it is. Also, if you are having more guests in the evening it is normal to have some sort of food, however, you don't need to cater for all guests. If you have 75-day guests and an additional 50 in the evening, your total is 125, you will then normally cater for 75-80% of the total number. If you have not booked your venue then look at all in package as they will often include a certain amount of food for day 50 people and then you can just top up on a per person cost if needed.

We had approx 45 wedding breakfast guest which cost us roughly 3.5k for family style dining (sharing platters) . It was honestly a feast with loads left over (we managed to take the rest home and had delicious lunches for the rest of the week). We ate at roughly 4.30 then had an additional 30 evening guests for more deserts at our desert station. We contemplated having our cateres provide more evening food but we just ordered pizza at roughly 8.30/9pm which went down well so soak up all the alcohol. We're glad we didn't pay the extra 2k as it probably wouldn't have been eaten. We spoke to other couples who said even food was barely touched at theirs and other weddings they've been too.

Evening food is SUCH a worthwhile investment! Helps soak up the alcohol and keeps people dancing after a little energy boost - always goes down so well with guests

I think it depends on what time things are happening. If you're having a late ceremony and a 'wedding breakfast' type thing quite late on, you can get away with only 1 meal. If you're having an earlier ceremony and are planning on partying until late, it would be nice (in my opinion) to put some snacks or something on later. We're having an evening buffet type thing but there are loads of options like a hog roast or pizzas etc that other people have done.
