Evening guests... to have or not to have?

Anonbride, 23 September, 2022 at 17:07 Posted on Planning 0 3

As I think you all know, I'm getting married in Cornwall! It's a journey for all our guests that will require an overnight stay.

We have a small package of 50 people that doesn't include additional evening guests. This might be a fleeting thought that I shut down but it's here so I want to get some opinions... from what I can gather from other posts, adding evening guests isn't super expensive, so I'm starting to wonder if it could potentially be an idea to offer evening invites to help combat some of the draaaamas about who we haven't invited (e.g. extended family, periphery friends). Thoughts?

Things going through my mind are: would this actually cause offense (like you're asking me to come all this way just for the evening?!), is it more hassle than it's worth to figure out costs and get the okay from the venue if it feels unlikely anyone would make the effort, would anyone realistically make the effort and therefore should we just invite the obligations or also the people we would have had if it was a bigger wedding?!

    Hi
We decided against evening guests. We are having a larger wedding than you just over a hundred.
There are a few people we could invite but it would be about a 40 minutes to an hour drive for them to get to the venue. So to expensive for taxis there and back.
When my sister got married her and her husband had evening guests and they provided a bus to collect them and bring them to the venue and then bring them back to the city afterwards.
The only thing is if you did this you have another cost you weren't planning for. Also trying to people on the the bus at the end of the night might be difficult 😅. There were a few that missed the bus at my sister's wedding ended up staying in other people rooms 🤣

That was our original reaction - that it would be such a faff and expensive just for the evening. Maybe not worth it and we just carry on putting out foot down on our guest list choices!
