Evening Reception Ideas

lauzie1986, 12 June, 2012 at 21:11 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi ladies

I just wondered what everyone is doing for their evening reception? Have you got any features or anything you could recommend?

We are having a DJ and we have a bouncy castle and a sweetie table....I just feel like we need something a bit extra? Im not really a fan of wedding bands and we have quite a small budget for extra extertainment or features so a firework display is out!

Suggestions/ideas would be appreciated Smiley smile

Thanks ladies

xxxxx

A table/street/close up magician (cant think what there proper name is)? I thought magician were a bit cringe until i saw one at a wedding show and he totally blew my mind have no idea how he did any of the tricks and would be great way of bringing people together and creating conversation.

Also have you thought about having a musician play in collaboration with the dj

like a sax player (heres an example of a bar music doesnt have to be house music for it to work) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0x8sLSHm76w&feature=related works with other instruments too.

I agree with the close up magician idea! I saw one at a function recently and it was brilliant. Although they can be quite expensive!

As you're having a bouncy castle are you having lots of children?

I've seen giant outdoor games too like connect 4, croquet etc.

We are actually....good idea! I shall have a look for some outdoor games!

What do you think to caricature artists? They look slightly cheaper than magicians and still keep people involved?

Think a caricature artist is a great idea....and a bit unusual. I put a basket of goodies in the ladies toilet with compliments os the bride. I put some funny quotes on the Hairspray, Plasters, Body Spray etc and had more comments from the Ladies on that than anything else lol

Honestly? I don't think you need anything else.

We just had a DJ and a homemade photo booth, that was enough.

We just had a fab DJ and a dressing up area with white screen and TOG taking pictures, the guests couldn't get enough of it! Most people are happy to dance, mingle or sit in a quiet area and drink after a long day at a wedding.

Ahhh great! Thanks ladies....I was worried after H2B said no to entertainment that the guests would be bored...but it appears I was being silly!hehe.

I like the idea of a props box and a DIY photo booth/white screen.....what did you use for the booth/setting?

Thank you for your help Smiley smile x

I agree with this. You want peple up dancing not sat watching a magician or queueing up to have a picture of them drawn. Concentrate on good music Smiley smile

What They both said - we had a DJ, sweetie table (located next tot he dance floor) and photobooth. That was enough as most people were dancing and drinking.
