So we are having a small ceremony of only 20 people and I am thinking of then doing speeches at the evening ceremony with all the guest, but then what time would we start the ceremony in the evening? Anyone done something similar?

This discussion is really helpful for anyone planning a small wedding. I like how people shared practical timing ideas, especially starting the evening ceremony around 6 to 7 PM, which seems comfortable for guests. It makes planning feel easier and more clear. Real experiences like this are always useful when making decisions. Content like this is also easy to share on happymod where others can get ideas.

Hey! Did our evening do last summer and honestly the trickiest bit was working out how much "dead time" to leave between the meal/speeches and the evening guests arriving — too tight and the room flip feels chaotic, too loose and the day guests start flagging. We ended up doing speeches before the meal which worked really well, kept everyone engaged when they were still fresh. One random tip — we made our own table cards and evening invites and I used a Banana AI image generator to put together some matching illustrated bits for both, saved us a fortune vs going to a stationer. Are you doing canapés between ceremony and wedding breakfast, or going straight in? That's the bit that really shapes your timings.

We did an evening-only do back in March and the biggest thing I'd say is build in WAY more buffer than you think you need — the bit between ceremony and food always overruns, especially if you've got group photos. We ended up doing a relaxed 45-min canapé window with a string trio and it honestly turned into people's favourite part of the night. Random side note — we couldn't justify £200+ on a stationer for save-the-dates so I used an AI image tool like Nano Banana to create our own illustrated wedding crest and printed everything at home. Looked properly bespoke and saved us a fortune. Are you sit-down dinner or buffet? That's usually where evening timelines get tight!
